Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A fluid delivery apparatus including a reservoir containing at least one fluid. A capillary channel extends from the reservoir to deliver the fluids stored in the reservoir through one or more fluid outlets via capillary action. In one embodiment, an applicator formed of a capillary material is located within the outlet. A variety of fluids can be administered for therapeutic, hygienic, and/or other benefits. In one aspect, the apparatus includes a housing defining a reservoir; at least one fluid stored in the reservoir; and a capillary channel in fluid coupling with the at least one fluid, the capillary channel including a first capillary member and a second capillary member that circumferentially surrounds the first capillary member such that the first and second capillary members are concentric.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A fluid dispensing oral care implement, comprising: a head including at least one tooth cleaning element and having a longitudinal axis; a storage member for storing a fluid; an aperture formed into a rear side of the head; a fluid outlet disposed in the head; a channel fluidly coupling the storage member to the fluid outlet; and an outlet extension in fluid communication with the fluid outlet and protruding through the aperture. 2. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the fluid outlet and the channel are unitary. 3. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the outlet extension forms a portion of the distal end of the head. 4. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the channel and the storage member are cylindrical in shape and concentrically aligned with each other. 5. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the fluid outlet is disposed at least partially within a tissue cleanser attached to the head of the oral care implement, and wherein a portion of the tissue cleanser is positioned between an end of the fluid outlet and the proximal end of the head. 6. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the outlet extension has a varying height along its length. 7. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the outlet extension is longitudinally elongated and extends from a distal end of the head toward a proximal end of the head. 8. The oral care implement of claim 7 wherein the outlet extension covers a majority of an axial length of the head. 9. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the outlet extension has a height which is constant along its length. 10. The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the aperture has a proximal end and the outlet extension has a thickness which decreases from the proximal end of the aperture to a distal end of the head. 11. The oral care implement of claim 1 further comprising a tissue cleanser, the outlet extension extending beyond a distal end of the tissue cleanser along the longitudinal axis. 12. A fluid dispensing oral care implement, comprising: a head extending along a longitudinal axis and having a first side and a second side opposite the first side; tooth cleaning elements positioned on the first side of the head; a storage member for storing a fluid; an aperture formed through the rear side of the head; a longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension disposed in the aperture; and the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension fluidly coupled to the storage chamber. 13. The oral care implement of claim 12 further comprising an elastomeric soft tissue cleanser disposed on the rear side of the head, the elastomeric soft tissue cleanser comprising a plurality of protruding projections, and wherein the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension is embedded within the elastomeric soft tissue cleanser. 14. The oral care implement of claim 13 , wherein a free end of the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension is substantially flush with an exposed outer surface of the elastomeric soft tissue cleaner. 15. The oral care implement of claim 13 , wherein a free end of the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension projects outwards above an exposed outer surface of the elastomeric soft tissue cleaner. 16. The oral care implement of claim 12 , further comprising a channel fluidly coupling the storage member to the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension, wherein each of the channel and the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension is formed of a wicking material. 17. The oral care implement of claim 12 , wherein the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension extends from a distal end of the head of the oral care implement toward a proximal end of the head of the oral care implement. 18. The oral care implement of claim 12 , wherein the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension is aligned along the longitudinal axis and covers a majority of the axial length of the head. 19. The oral care implement of claim 12 , wherein the longitudinally elongated fluid outlet extension has a varying height along its length. 20. A fluid dispensing oral care implement, comprising: a head including having a longitudinal axis and a tissue cleanser; a storage member for storing a fluid; an aperture formed into a rear side of the head; a fluid outlet disposed in the head and at least partially within the tissue cleanser; a channel fluidly coupling the storage member to the fluid outlet; and an outlet extension in fluid communication with the fluid outlet and protruding through the aperture, the outlet extension extending beyond a distal end of the tissue cleanser along the longitudinal axis.
