A vehicle having in-mold electronics is provided. According to one or more aspects, a vehicle includes a vehicle computing device, for controlling the vehicle, and a molded part. The molded part includes a thermoformed first film, structural layer, electronic circuit, and a functional component. The molded structural layer is arranged under the first film. The thermoformed second film arranged under the structural layer. The electronic circuit arranged over the second film and adjacent the structural layer. The electronic circuit includes a functional component communicably coupled to the vehicle computing device. The first film is arranged to cover the structural layer, the second film, and the electronic circuit to define an exposed surface of the molded part that forms an exterior portion of the vehicle.

The invention claimed is: 1. A vehicle having functional component, the vehicle comprising: an vehicle computing device for controlling the vehicle; and a molded part that includes: a thermoformed first film; a molded structural layer arranged under the first film; a thermoformed second film arranged under the structural layer; and an electronic circuit arranged over the second film and adjacent the structural layer, the electronic circuit including a functional component communicably coupled to the vehicle computing device, wherein the first film is arranged to cover the structural layer, the second film, and the electronic circuit to define an exposed surface of the molded part that forms an exterior portion of the vehicle, and wherein the molded part includes printed graphics visible at the exposed surface of the molded part. 2. The vehicle according to claim 1 , wherein the electronic circuit is arranged in a single layer on the second film. 3. The vehicle according to claim 1 , wherein the vehicle computing device comprises a processor to activate at least one functional component. 4. The vehicle according to claim 3 , wherein the activation is based on validation of an object by the vehicle computing device. 5. The vehicle according to claim 1 , wherein: the electronic circuit further includes a light source that emits light; and the first film is arranged over the light source, the light emitted by the light source is visible through the first film. 6. The vehicle according to claim 1 , wherein the functional component includes a sensor. 7. The vehicle according to claim 1 , further including a molded polymeric structural layer, wherein: the film is thermoformed to the structural layer such that a second side is facing the structural layer; the electronic circuit is arranged on the second side between the film and the structural layer; and a first side defines an exposed surface of the functional component. 8. A method for utilizing a functional component, comprising: providing a first functional component and a second functional component in-molded as a molded part in an exterior portion of a sash between the vehicle doors of a vehicle, wherein the first functional component and the second functional component are arranged between the a first film and a second film to form the molded part in the sash; detecting an object with the first functional component; validating the object; and activating the second functional component. 9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein detecting the object includes receiving user data associated with a vehicle user. 10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the user data is associated with user profile of a ride-sharing service. 11. The method according to claim 8 , wherein detecting the object includes receiving near field communications. 12. The method according to claim 8 , wherein validating the object further comprises comparing user data to credentials to authenticate a vehicle user. 13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the credentials may include a user profile, subscription, or application access. 14. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the first functional component is communications antenna and the second functional component is a light source. 15. A method of producing a functional component, comprising: providing a first film and a second film; arranging a plurality of functional components in an electronic circuit on the second film; arranging the first film, the second film, and the functional components in a mold to form a molded part; and injecting resin into the mold to form an exposed surface of an exterior portion of a vehicle, and wherein the molded part includes printed graphics visible at the exposed surface of the molded part. 16. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising: providing a structural layer arranged adjacent to the electronic circuit, and wherein the first film is arranged to cover the structural layer, the second film, and the electronic circuit to thereby define the exposed surface of the functional component. 17. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the electronic circuit is arranged in a single layer on the second film. 18. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the functional component includes a sensor.
