A method of treating Lewy body dementia, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of zonisamide, or a salt or a sustained release formulation thereof. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously, separately, or sequentially administering to a subject in need thereof at least one compound selected from the group of dyphylline, tadalafil, argatroban, acamprosate, cinacalcet, terbinafine, cilostazol, baclofen, phenformin, amlodipine and sulfisoxazole, or salts or sustained release formulations thereof. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously, separately, or sequentially administering to a subject in need thereof at least one drug that modulates synapse function. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously, separately, or sequentially administering to a subject in need thereof at least one drug that modulates angiogenesis. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising simultaneously, separately, or sequentially administering to a subject in need thereof at least one drug that modulates cell stress response. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the effective amount of zonisamide, or a salt or sustained release formulation thereof, is formulated with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the effective amount of zonisamide, or a salt or sustained release formulation thereof, is repeatedly administered to the subject.
