Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In response to detecting a configured quick response (QR) code change event associated with an item displayed in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code is displayed that includes an encoded new unique value. The changed dynamic QR code is changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and is changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated the retail environment within which the item is displayed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: by a processor: displaying, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event associated with an item displayed in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the retail environment within which the item is displayed; archiving, to implement user-based QR code redemption in response to detecting a scan of the changed dynamic QR code, a user identifier of a user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, and the encoded new unique value of the changed dynamic QR code; and using the archived user identifier, device identifier, and encoded new unique value during a detected redemption of the changed dynamic QR code to limit the detected redemption to the user and the consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code. 2. The method of claim 1 , where the set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the retail environment within which the item is displayed comprises: data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current time, and a current date. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the detected configured QR code change event associated with the item displayed in the retail environment comprises one of a current scan of a price of the item by a user, detection of a user identifier of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and detection of a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of contemporaneous data elements comprises data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment sufficient to identify an aisle and shelf, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, and a current time and date. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the set of contemporaneous data elements comprises the current location of the item, the current temperature, and the current time and date. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the change event comprises a current scan by a user. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein a second change event comprises detection of a user identifier of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and a third change event comprises a detection of a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code. 8. A system, comprising: an output device; and a processor programmed to: display, on the output device in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event associated with an item displayed in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the retail environment at which the item is displayed, wherein the detected configured QR code changed event associated with the item displayed in the retail environment comprises one of detection of a user identifier of a user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and a detection of a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code. 9. The system of claim 8 , where the set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the retail environment within which the item is displayed comprises: data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current time, and a current date. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the data elements of the current location of the item displayed is an aisle and shelf at which the item is displayed. 11. The system of claim 8 , where the processor is further programmed to: archive, to implement user-based QR code redemption in response to detecting a scan of the changed dynamic QR code, a user identifier of a user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, and the encoded new unique value of the changed dynamic QR code; and use the archived user identifier, device identifier, and encoded new unique value during a detected redemption of the changed dynamic QR code to limit the detected redemption to the user and the consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code. 12. A computer program product, comprising: a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, where the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se and where the computer readable program code when executed on a computer causes the computer to: display, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event associated with an item displayed in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the retail environment within which the item is displayed; archive, to implement user-based QR code redemption in response to detecting a scan of the changed dynamic QR code, a user identifier of a user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the changed dynamic QR code, and the encoded new unique value of the changed dynamic QR code; and use the archived user identifier, device identifier, and encoded new unique value during a detected redemption of the changed dynamic QR code to limit the detected redemption to the user and the consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code. 13. The computer program product of claim 12 , where the set of contemporaneous data elements associated with retail environment within which the item is displayed comprises: data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current time, and a current date. 14. The computer program product of claim 12 , wherein the detected configured QR code change event associated with the item displayed in the retail environment comprises one of detection of a user identifier of a user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and detection of a device identifier of a consumer device of the user that scanned the previously-displayed dynamic QR code.
