Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods are disclosed for accessing first party Internet cookies. One method includes receiving, over an electronic network, a request for an electronic advertisement or an Internet cookie, wherein the request is received in response to a user requesting content from a subdomain of an advertising entity domain; and sending, to a device associated with the user, an Internet cookie having the subdomain of the advertising entity domain. The method further includes receiving, from the device associated with the user, a request for content from the subdomain of the advertising entity domain, wherein the request is received in response to the user requesting content from a domain of an online publisher; and accessing data stored in the Internet cookie sent to the device associated with the user.

What is claimed is: 1. A computer-implemented method for accessing first party Internet cookies, the method including: receiving, over an electronic network, a request for a graphical data element, in response to a user requesting content from a subdomain of a first party domain associated with the user viewing a website of the first party, the graphical data element comprising content associated with the first party; sending, from a graphical data element server associated with a graphical data element network to a device associated with the user, an Internet cookie that is accessible by the graphical data element server and that has the subdomain of the first party domain; receiving, from the device associated with the user, a request for content from a domain of a website of an online publisher; transmitting the website of the online publisher and code for a universal graphical data element call, to the device associated with the user in response to the request for content, the universal graphical data element call defining a plurality of server calls to a plurality of subdomains of the first party domain, each of the plurality of subdomains being associated with cookies set by first parties; receiving, from the device associated with the user, a plurality of server calls, each of the plurality of server calls being initiated by the universal graphical data element call, to the plurality of subdomains of the first party domain associated with cookies set by first parties, and the plurality of server calls including requests for content from a plurality of subdomains of first party domains; in response to the plurality of requests, checking the device associated with the user for an Internet cookie associated with each of the plurality of subdomains of first party domains; and for each of the plurality of subdomains of first party domains, sending the user device either a pixel image or broken image based on a result of checking for the Internet cookie associated with the subdomain of the first party domain. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user requests the content from the subdomain of the first party domain upon visiting a website of the first party domain. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the website of the first party domain contains a graphical data element pixel tag served from the subdomain of the first party domain. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request for the graphical data element or Internet cookie is received based on a DNS rerouting of the subdomain of the first party domain. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising upon identifying, by a graphical data element server receiving the plurality of server calls, that the device associated with the user has stored the Internet cookie having the subdomain of the first party domain, accessing, by the graphical data element server, data stored in the Internet cookie sent to the device associated with the user. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of requests for content from the plurality of subdomains of first party domains are performed based on the universal graphical data element call being served from a website of the online publisher. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of requests for content from the plurality of subdomains of first party domains are received based on DNS redirection of the subdomains of the first party domain. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving from the user device a request for a targeted graphical data element; and identifying or generating, based on the data accessed in the Internet cookie, a graphical data element targeted to the user device. 9. A system for accessing first party Internet cookies, the system including: at least one data storage device storing instructions for accessing first party Internet cookies; and at least one processor configured to execute the instructions to perform a method including: receiving, over an electronic network, a request for a graphical data element, in response to a user requesting content from a subdomain of a first party domain associated with the user viewing a website of the first party, the graphical data element comprising content associated with the first party; sending, from a graphical data element server associated with a graphical data element network to a device associated with the user, an Internet cookie that is accessible by the graphical data element server and that has the subdomain of the first party domain; receiving, from the device associated with the user, a request for content from a domain of a website of an online publisher; transmitting the website of the online publisher and code for a universal graphical data element call, to the device associated with the user in response to the request for content, the universal graphical data element call defining a plurality of server calls to a plurality of subdomains of the first party domain, each of the plurality of subdomains being associated with cookies set by first parties; receiving, from the device associated with the user, a plurality of server calls, each of the plurality of server calls being initiated by the universal graphical data element call, to the plurality of subdomains of the first party domain associated with cookies set by first parties, and the plurality of server calls including requests for content from a plurality of subdomains of first party domains; in response to the plurality of requests, checking the device associated with the user for an Internet cookie associated with each of the plurality of subdomains of first party domains; and for each of the plurality of subdomains of first party domains, sending the user device either a pixel image or broken image based on a result of checking for the Internet cookie associated with the subdomain of the first party domain. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the user requests the content from the subdomain of the first party domain upon visiting a website of the first party domain. 11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the website of the first party domain contains a graphical data element pixel tag having the subdomain of the first party domain. 12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the request for the graphical data element or Internet cookie is received based on a DNS redirect of the subdomain of the first party domain. 13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured for upon identifying, by a graphical data element server receiving the plurality of server calls, that the device associated with the user has stored the Internet cookie having the subdomain of the first party domain, accessing, by the graphical data element server, data stored in the Internet cookie sent to the device associated with the user. 14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of requests for content from the plurality of subdomains of first party domains are performed based on the universal graphical data element call being served from a website of the online publisher. 15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of requests for content from the plurality of subdomains of first party domains are received based on DNS redirect of the subdomains of the first party domain. 16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform a method for accessing first party Internet cookies, the method including: receiving, over an electronic network, a request for a graphical data element, in response to a user requesting content from a subdomain of a fi
