Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A dispensing system includes one or more digital image capture devices for capturing images in a dispenser well and a digital image analyzer operatively coupled to the digital image capture device(s) for analyzing the images for use in regulating a dispensing operation. The digital image analyzer evaluates digital images captured by the digital image capture device(s) to determine various characteristics of a container placed in the dispensing well, such as the height and position of the container.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of performing a dispensing operation, the method comprising: capturing at least one multidimensional image of a container with at least one digital image capture device; and regulating the dispensing operation based on the at least one multidimensional image. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising evaluating the at least one multidimensional image to determine at least one characteristic of the container. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the at least one characteristic of the container includes determining a height of the container. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the at least one characteristic of the container includes determining a volume of the container. 5. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the at least one characteristic of the container includes determining a shape of the container. 6. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the at least one characteristic of the container includes determining a position of the container. 7. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the at least one characteristic of the container includes determining a material of the container. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one multidimensional image includes at least two images, the method further comprising sensing movement of the container based on the at least two images. 9. A method of performing a dispensing operation, the method comprising: capturing a first image of the container from a first location and capturing a second image of the container from a second location; and regulating the dispensing operation based on at least one of the first and second images. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein: a at least one digital image capture device includes a first digital image capture device and a second digital image capture device; capturing the first image of the container includes capturing the first image with the first digital image capture device; and capturing the second image of the container includes capturing the second image with the second digital image capture device. 11. A dispenser assembly for selectively performing a dispensing operation, the dispenser assembly comprising: at least one digital image capture device configured to capture at least one multidimensional image of a container, wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to regulate the dispensing operation based on the at least one multidimensional image. 12. The dispenser assembly of claim 11 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine at least one characteristic of the container. 13. The dispenser assembly of claim 12 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine a height of the container. 14. The dispenser assembly of claim 12 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine a volume of the container. 15. The dispenser assembly of claim 12 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine a shape of the container. 16. The dispenser assembly of claim 12 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine a position of the container. 17. The dispenser assembly of claim 12 , wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to evaluate the at least one multidimensional image to determine a material of the container. 18. The dispenser assembly of claim 11 , wherein the at least one multidimensional image includes at least two images, and wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to sense movement of the container based on the at least one multidimensional image. 19. A dispenser assembly for selectively performing a dispensing operation, the dispenser assembly comprising: at least one digital image capture device is configured to capture a first image of the container from a first location and a second image of the container from a second location, wherein the dispenser assembly is configured to regulate the dispensing operation based on at least one of the first and second images. 20. The dispenser assembly of claim 19 , wherein: the at least one digital image capture device includes a first digital image capture device and a second digital image capture device; the first digital image capture device is configured to capture the first image of the container; and the second digital image capture device is configured to capture the second image of the container.
