Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A shaving apparatus, shaving head and/or at least one cutting unit for shaving both short and long hairs. The shaving apparatus, shaving head and/or at least one cutting unit includes an external cutting member and an internal cutting member movably arranged with respect to the external cutting member. A driver may be provided for moving the internal cutting member. The external cutting member is provided with a shaving section having two mutually connected lateral borders forming hair entry apertures. The internal cutting member is provided with cutting elements having cutting edges for cooperation with cutting edges of the external cutting member. A number of the hair entry apertures are formed by two substantially flat lamellae of the external cutting member which have free ends positioned between the borders of the shaving section.

The invention claimed is: 1. A cutting unit comprising an external cutting member and an internal cutting member movably arranged with respect to the external cutting member for making rotations around an axis with respect to the external cutting member, wherein the external cutting member is provided with a shaving section having two lateral borders connected to each other by a plurality of radially extending interconnection portions that interconnect the two borders and thereby define hair entry apertures, at least a number of said hair entry apertures being further defined by laterally open recesses each extending between two substantially flat lamellae of the external cutting member, the two lamellae defining cutting edges with at least one of the two lamellae having a free end, wherein the two lamellae have a first surface that faces away from the internal cutting member and have an opposing second surface that faces the internal cutting member, wherein the free end, when seen in a direction parallel to the axis, is positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section, wherein at least one of the lateral borders is located inward away from the second surface towards a portion of the internal cutting member, and wherein the internal cutting member is provided with a cutting element having a cutting edge for cooperation with the cutting edges of the two lamellae. 2. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein both of the two lamellae have free ends positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section. 3. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the interconnection portions comprise connection lamellae, wherein a first end of the connection lamellae is connected to a first one of the two borders and a second end of the connection lamellae is connected to a second one of the two borders. 4. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the internal cutting member is rotatably mounted relative to the external cutting member, wherein the shaving section is an annular section, and wherein the two lamellae are substantially radially extending lamellae. 5. The cutting unit of claim 4 , wherein each one of the two lamellae extend either radially inward or radially outward. 6. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the laterally open recesses are one-sided open slots. 7. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the two lamellae are two of at least two lamellae, and wherein only the at least two lamellae having free ends positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section are positioned between the interconnection portions. 8. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the shaving section is a first shaving section and the hair entry apertures are first hair entry apertures, the cutting unit comprising a second shaving section with second hair entry apertures, wherein the second hair entry apertures are concentrically arranged around the first shaving section, and wherein one of the second shaving section shares an outer one of the two lateral borders or the second shaving section shares an outer one of the two lateral borders and the cutting unit comprises a third shaving section with an outer portion sharing an inner one of the two lateral borders. 9. The cutting unit of claim 1 , wherein the shaving section is annular. 10. The cutting unit of claim 9 , wherein the shaving section is a first shaving section and the hair entry apertures are first hair entry apertures, the shaving apparatus further comprising a second shaving section with second hair entry apertures, wherein one of the second shaving section shares an outer one of the two lateral borders or the cutting unit comprises a third shaving section with an inner portion sharing an outer one of the two lateral borders and an outer portion of the second shaving section sharing an inner one of the two lateral borders, and wherein the second hair entry apertures are concentrically arranged in a form of one of round openings arranged around the axis and slits arranged around the axis. 11. The cutting unit of claim 10 , wherein the first shaving section shares the outer one of the two lateral borders with the second shaving section. 12. The cutting unit of claim 11 , wherein the second hair entry apertures comprise slits arranged around the axis. 13. The cutting unit of claim 12 , wherein the slits extend radially outward. 14. A shaving apparatus having at least one cutting unit, the cutting unit comprising an external cutting member and an internal cutting member movably arranged with respect to the external cutting member for making rotations around an axis with respect to the external cutting member, wherein the external cutting member is provided with a shaving section having two lateral borders connected to each other by a plurality of radially extending interconnection portions that interconnect the two borders and thereby define hair entry apertures, at least a number of said hair entry apertures being further defined by laterally open recesses each extending between two substantially flat lamellae of the external cutting member, the two lamellae defining cutting edges with at least one of the two lamellae having a free end, wherein the two lamellae have a first surface that faces away from the internal cutting member and have an opposing second surface that faces the internal cutting member, wherein the free end, when seen in a direction parallel to the axis, is positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section, wherein at least one of the lateral borders is located inward away from the second surface towards a portion of the internal cutting member, and wherein the internal cutting member is provided with a cutting element having a cutting edge for cooperation with the cutting edges of the two lamellae. 15. The shaving apparatus as claimed in claim 14 , further comprising a driver for moving the internal cutting member and a housing accommodating the driver and supporting the at least one cutting unit. 16. The shaving apparatus of claim 14 , wherein both of the two lamellae have free ends positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section. 17. The shaving apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the interconnection portions comprise connection lamellae, wherein a first end of the connection lamellae is connected to a first one of the two borders and a second end of the connection lamellae is connected to a second one of the two borders. 18. The shaving apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the two lamellae are two of at least two lamellae, and wherein only the at least two lamellae having free ends positioned between the lateral borders of the shaving section are positioned between the interconnection portions. 19. The shaving apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the shaving section is an annular first shaving section and the hair entry apertures are first hair entry apertures, the shaving apparatus further comprising a second annular shaving section and with second hair entry apertures, wherein one of the second shaving section shares an outer one of the two lateral borders or the cutting unit comprises a third shaving section with an inner portion sharing an outer one of the two lateral borders and an outer portion of the second shaving section sharing an inner one of the two lateral borders, and wherein the second hair entry apertures are concentrically arranged in a form of one of round openings arranged around the axis and slits arranged around the axis. 20.
