Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system for interactive gaming among a plurality of players includes a host computer system and a plurality of player terminals communicably coupled to the host computer system or gaming platform via a network. The plurality of player terminals may be located at a plurality of licensed gaming locations. The plurality of player terminals may be configured to engage the plurality of players in a common interactive game operated by the host computer system. The plurality of player terminals can include means for dispensing player winnings from the player terminal.

What is claimed is: 1. A gaming system for electronic virtual reality gaming, comprising: a gaming platform to host an electronic virtual reality game using a host computer system; and a player terminal configured for interactive game play of the electronic virtual reality game and communicably coupled to the gaming platform, wherein the player terminal includes: one or more processors; a communications interface to connect the player terminal to the gaming platform; a first display to depict gaming action from the virtual reality game from a perspective of a player; a payment interaction display area to allow the player to purchase credits to be added to a credit total that can be used to place bets; a sensor to receive gesture-based inputs from a first player during a course of the virtual reality game to control game play; a betting display interface to receive a bet having a betting value that is then deducted from the credit total; an identification module, under control of the one or more processors, to gather a location of the player terminal; and a state recordation module, under control of the one or more processors, to: create recordings of gaming action during the virtual reality game sufficient to reproduce the game play, and monitor the location of the player terminal over time; wherein the gaming platform includes: a policy enforcement module, under control of the host computer system, to set a collusion avoidance policy for the player terminal based on the monitored location of the player terminal; and a collusion detection module, under control of the host computer system, to facilitate enforcement of the collusion avoidance policy for the player terminal: wherein at least one of: the gaming platform, and the player terminal, distributes a payout from the virtual reality game by adding winnings to the credit total; wherein the recordings and the monitored location of the player terminal are analyzed by the host computer system to detect colluding players or cheating; and wherein the payout is withheld until after the recordings and the monitored location are analyzed to detect colluding players or cheating. 2. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the gaming platform includes at least one of the following: a graphics module to control graphics displayed on the first display of the player terminal; a game storage arrangement to house at least one of software and computer-executable code that control the virtual reality game offered by the gaming platform; a game processor to control the virtual reality game using at least one of software and computer-executable code from the game storage arrangement; a tournament processor to control player tournaments; a loyalty tracker to track game play of any player that has registered and to thereby reward those players for an amount of time spent playing; and an accounting processor to control flow of value within a network. 3. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the recordings of the virtual reality game are automatically analyzed to detect collusion. 4. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the player terminal is a multi-player terminal allowing multiple players at the multi-player terminal to play head-to-head in the virtual reality game. 5. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the player terminal also includes an external video output that allows display of the virtual reality game to non-players. 6. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the player terminal: receives, from the gaming platform, a list of multiple electronic virtual reality games which are presented on the first display. 7. The gaming system of claim 6 , wherein the sensor allows a player to select a game from the list of multiple electronic virtual reality games being presented on the first display. 8. The gaming system of claim 7 , wherein, upon processing a selection of the electronic virtual reality game, the communication interface transmits a selection signal from the player terminal to the gaming platform identifying the selection and requesting the selected electronic virtual reality game be initiated. 9. The gaming system of claim 6 , wherein the player terminal receives the list of multiple electronic virtual reality games according to the location of the player terminal and a location of at least one other player terminal. 10. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein creating the recordings of the virtual reality game includes archiving snapshots based on game states that contain at least one of a wager, payout levels, and skill level settings. 11. The gaming system of claim 10 , wherein the snapshots are recorded at a variable rate. 12. The gaming system of claim 10 , wherein the snapshots include at least one of the following: gaming parameters, a gaming session identifier, date and time, and the location of the player terminal. 13. The gaming system of claim 12 , wherein the snapshots include gaming parameters, and wherein the gaming parameters include at least one of the following: ammo amounts, number of lives, and challenge level reached during game play. 14. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the state recordation module is configured to: initiate creation of the recordings of the virtual reality game when the bets are above a first threshold; and wherein the creation the recordings of the virtual reality game includes capturing snapshots of game play at a rate that is dependent on the bets received via the betting display interface. 15. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual reality game includes a card game, wherein the first display depicts a virtual table, and wherein one of the inputs received via the sensor includes a request from the player to rotate a perspective of the virtual table so that the player is depicted at the virtual table in a desired location. 16. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein: the gaming platform includes a game processor to control the virtual reality game using computer-executable code retrieved from a game storage arrangement; and the collusion detection module is further configured to review unusual activity taken by the player, wherein the unusual activity taken by the player includes frequent occurrences of two or more players playing together. 17. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the gaming platform is located at a first location that is different from a second location of the player terminal. 18. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the communications interface connects the player terminal to the gaming platform via a network. 19. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the monitored locations of the player terminals are further analyzed by the game platform to determine if one or more of the player terminals is in a banned location or in a location where gambling would be permitted. 20. A gaming platform for hosting an electronic virtual reality game, comprising: one or more processors; a communications interface to connect the gaming platform to player terminals configured for interactive game play of the electronic virtual reality game; a game storage arrangement to house at least one of software and computer-executable code allowing a player at one of the player terminals to participate in a virtual reality game offered by the gaming platform; a game processor to control the virtual reality game using the at least one of software and computer-executable code from the game storage arrangement; an accounting processor to track purchase and exchange of credits receiv
