Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Techniques for optimizing power and computational density of data centers are described. According to various embodiments, a benchmark test is performed by a computer data center system. Thereafter, transaction information and power consumption information associated with the performance of the benchmark test are accessed. A service efficiency metric value is then generated based on the transaction information and the power consumption information, the service efficiency metric value indicating a number of transactions executed via the computer data center system during a specific time period per unit of power consumed in executing the transactions during the specific time period. The generated service efficiency metric value is then compared to a target threshold value. Thereafter, a performance summary report indicating the generated service efficiency metric value, and indicating a result of the comparison of the generated service efficiency metric value to the target value, is generated.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: by a metrics generations module, determining a benchmark value of a service efficiency metric for a service object executing on a first configuration of computing components; generating a target value of the service efficiency metric for the service object; generating a comparison of the benchmark value of the service efficiency metric with the target value of the service efficiency metric; and generating a performance summary report comprising the comparison of the benchmark value with the target value. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating an output of a recommendation to improve the service efficiency metric. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes power consumption data. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes a carbon generated data. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprises sending the performance summary report to a client browser. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performance summary report includes cost data. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the service object is a web server. 8. A system comprising: a metrics generations module, using at least one processor of a machine, to determine a benchmark value of a service efficiency metric for a service object executing on a first configuration of computing components; generate a target value of the service efficiency metric for the service object; generate a comparison of the benchmark value of the service efficiency metric with the target value of the service efficiency metric; and generate a performance summary report comprising the comparison of the benchmark value with the target value. 9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising: the metrics generations module to generate an output of a recommendation to improve the service efficiency metric. 10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes power consumption data. 11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes a carbon generated data. 12. The system of claim 8 , further comprising the metrics generations module to send the performance summary report to a client browser. 13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the performance summary report includes cost data. 14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the service object is a web server. 15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon, instructions when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising: determining a benchmark value of a service efficiency metric for a service object executing on a first configuration of computing components; generating a target value of the service efficiency metric for the service object; generating a comparison of the benchmark value of the service efficiency metric with the target value of the service efficiency metric; and generating a performance summary report comprising the comparison of the benchmark value with the target value. 16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise generating an output of a recommendation to improve the service efficiency metric. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes power consumption data. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the service efficiency metric includes a carbon generated data. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise sending the performance summary report to a client browser. 20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the performance summary report includes cost data.
