Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A connector is used to connect a gases supply to a user. The user can be fitted with an interface, such as a cannula, while the gases supply can include a conduit. The connector interfaces between the conduit and the interface. The connector has a female assembly and a male assembly that connect together, such as by push fit. The male assembly includes an inner portion sized and configured to mate with a first female connector and an outer portion sized and configured to alternatively mate with a second female connector.

The invention claimed is: 1. A connector for a gases supply conduit comprising: an end wall; an annular outer wall extending distally/outwardly from the end wall; an annular inner wall extending distally/outwardly from the end wall, the inner wall being nested within the outer wall; an annular gap between the outer wall and the inner wall, the outer wall comprising an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface of the outer wall comprising a recess extending across the outer wall, wherein the recess is annular in shape, wherein the outer wall defines a taper. 2. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the recess extends around a circumference of the outer wall. 3. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the recess is configured to receive and lock with a corresponding connector wall that is received within the annular gap between the inner wall and the outer wall. 4. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the outer wall and the inner wall are concentric. 5. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the recess is located in the outer wall adjacent the end wall. 6. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the inner wall and the outer wall terminate at the end wall. 7. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the recess and the outer wall are configured to help to lock a source side end connector in position when the connector of the gases supply conduit is coupled to the source side end connector. 8. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the recess extends approximately 5 mm in an axial direction. 9. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the inner wall defines a taper. 10. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the inner wall has an inner diameter that is about 12 mm and an outer diameter that is about 15 mm. 11. The connector of claim 1 , wherein a proximal end comprises one or more flanges configured to allow the proximal end to connect to a conduit. 12. The connector of claim 11 , wherein the flanges comprise two or more posts that support a proximal rim. 13. The connector of claim 12 , wherein the two or more posts are spaced from each other to define one or more windows, the one or more windows configured to provide flexibility to the one or more flanges to allow the one or more flanges to connect to an interface tube. 14. The connector of claim 12 , wherein the proximal rim comprises one or more catches extending from the rim. 15. The connector of Claim 14 , wherein each catch of the one or more catches is positioned between two posts such that the catch overhangs one of the windows. 16. The connector of claim 15 , wherein the one or more catches comprise one catch on each of two flanges of the one or more flanges that are separated by an angle α, wherein the angle a is between 70 degrees and 110 degrees. 17. The connector of claim 15 , wherein the one or more catches of a single flange can be spaced apart by an angle β, wherein the angle β is between 5 and 15 degrees. 18. The connector of claim 12 , wherein the proximal rim comprises two or more catches extending from the rim. 19. The connector of claim 18 , wherein the two or more catches are spaced apart from each other and disposed along the proximal rim to encircle a circular passageway. 20. The connector of claim 12 , wherein a portion of the end wall proximate a base of the posts is thicker than a radially outward portion of the end wall. 21. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the inner diameter of the inner wall is at least 10 mm. 22. The connector of claim 1 , wherein outer diameter is at least 13 mm. 23. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the inner wall and the outer wall define an inner tube and an outer tube. 24. The connector of claim 23 , wherein the inner tube is nested within the outer tube.
