Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end includes a collapsible and expandable stent, a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets, and a deformable frame having a first end and a second end. The frame includes braided wires forming a body having a lumen extending therethrough for receiving the stent and the valve assembly, the body having a plurality of diameters from the first end to the second end.

The invention claimed is: 1. A system comprising: a prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end, comprising: a collapsible and expandable stent; a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets; a deformable frame formed of braided wires, the frame having a body portion and a lumen extending through the body portion for receiving the stent and the valve assembly; and a delivery device comprising: a hollow catheter for receiving the frame in a deformed condition; and an elongate flexible shaft having a distal tip configured to be disposed within the catheter and to releasably couple with the frame, wherein the braided wires include a first group of free ends held together by a first crimping member; and wherein a first end of the first crimping member is crimped over the first group of free ends, and a second end of the first crimping member includes attachment means for releasably coupling with the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the braided wires include a second group of free ends held together by a second crimping member, the first group of free ends being disposed at the outflow end and the second group of free ends being disposed at the inflow end. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the prosthetic heart valve is configured to replace a native mitral valve. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the valve assembly includes two leaflets. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is configured to be coupled to the frame by a compression fit. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is configured to be coupled to the frame by tethers. 7. A system comprising: a prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end, comprising: a collapsible and expandable stent; a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets; a deformable frame formed of braided wires, the frame having a body portion and a lumen extending through the body portion for receiving the stent and the valve assembly; and a delivery device comprising: a hollow catheter for receiving the frame in a deformed condition; and an elongate flexible shaft having a distal tip configured to be disposed within the catheter and to releasably couple with the frame, wherein the braided wires include a first group of free ends held together by a first crimping member; and wherein the first crimping member is internally threaded and the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is externally threaded. 8. A system, comprising: a prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end, comprising: a collapsible and expandable stent; a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets; a deformable frame formed of braided wires, the frame having a body portion and a lumen extending through the body portion for receiving the stent and the valve assembly; and a delivery device comprising: a hollow catheter for receiving the frame in a deformed condition; and an elongate flexible shaft having a distal tip configured to be disposed within the catheter and to releasably couple with the frame, wherein the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is configured to be coupled to the frame by a press fit. 9. A system comprising: a prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end, comprising: a collapsible and expandable stent; a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets; a deformable frame formed of braided wires, the frame having a body portion and a lumen extending through the body portion for receiving the stent and the valve assembly; and a delivery device comprising: a hollow catheter for receiving the frame in a deformed condition; and an elongate flexible shaft having a distal tip configured to be disposed within the catheter and to releasably couple with the frame, wherein the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is configured to be coupled to the frame by a snap fit. 10. A system comprising: a prosthetic heart valve having an inflow end and an outflow end, comprising: a collapsible and expandable stent; a collapsible and expandable valve assembly disposed within the stent and having a plurality of leaflets; a deformable frame formed of braided wires, the frame having a body portion and a lumen extending through the body portion for receiving the stent and the valve assembly; and a delivery device comprising: a hollow catheter for receiving the frame in a deformed condition; and an elongate flexible shaft having a distal tip configured to be disposed within the catheter and to releasably couple with the frame, wherein the distal tip of the elongate flexible shaft is configured to be coupled to the frame by a hook and clasp mechanism.
