What is claimed is: 1. A fan blade, comprising: a leading edge; an attachment root extending aft of the leading edge with an axis running from the leading edge to an aft end; and a trench formed in a bottom surface of the attachment root, wherein the trench is offset from the leading edge, wherein the trench extends aft from a first end proximal the leading edge to an end surface distal from the leading edge, wherein the end surface is disposed at an interior area of the bottom surface of the attachment root, wherein a first axial length of the trench is less than a second axial length of the attachment root, wherein the first axial length of the trench is at least half or less than the second axial length of the attachment root, wherein the trench includes a continuous trench bottom. 2. An attachment root, comprising: a leading edge; a dovetail extending aft of the leading edge with an axis running from the leading edge to an aft end; and a trench formed in a bottom surface of the dovetail, wherein the trench is offset from the leading edge, wherein the trench extends aft from a first end proximal the leading edge to an end surface distal from the leading edge, wherein the end surface is disposed at an interior area of the bottom surface of the attachment root, wherein a first axial length of the trench is less than a second axial length of the attachment root, wherein the first axial length of the trench is at least half or less than the second axial length of the attachment root, wherein the trench includes a continuous trench bottom.
