Techniques for presenting historized process parameter values in a process plant include presenting, via a user interface of an operator application, indications of process control elements in a first display region within a layout of a display view. Each of the process control elements is associated with one or more process parameters. The operator application also presents a trend display view in a second display region within the layout of the display view. The trend display view includes sets of historized process parameter values for process parameters presented in the first display region. For example, the trend display view in the second display region is linked to the display view in the first display region. In this manner, the trend display view presents charts or other graphical depictions of historized process parameter values for process parameters included in the first display region.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for configuring a display of historized process parameter values in a process plant, the method comprising: presenting, via a graphical user interface of a computing device executing a graphical configuration application in a configuration environment of a process plant, graphical user controls for a user to define display views, wherein the user graphically defines a layout of a display view having a display view type for each of one or more display regions using the graphical user controls, and the layout of the display view includes links between the display regions within the layout of the display view; obtaining, via the graphical user controls in the graphical user interface of the computing device, a user selection of a first display region within the layout of the display view to present a hierarchy display view which presents display views of sections of the process plant at different hierarchy levels, the display views of sections of the process plant including one or more process control elements; obtaining, via the graphical user controls in the graphical user interface of the computing device, a user selection of a second display region within the layout of the display view to present a trend display view which presents historized process parameter values; obtaining, via the graphical user controls in the graphical user interface of the computing device, a user selection to link the hierarchy display view to the trend display view, such that the trend display view presents, in an operating environment of the process plant, indications of one or more sets of historized process parameter values of one or more process parameters corresponding to the one or more process control elements that are indicated in the first display region; generating, by the graphical configuration application, a link between the first and second display regions; determining, by the graphical configuration application, a maximum number of process parameters to present in the trend display view; and downloading the configured display view including the link from the configuration environment into a user interface device for execution of an operator application in the operating environment of the process plant to thereby cause a presentation of the first and second display regions in the display view, wherein the user interface device presents (i) the hierarchy display view in the first display region, and (ii) the trend display view in the second display region which includes respective trends of the one or more process parameters corresponding to the one or more process control elements indicated in the first display region. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the maximum number of process parameters to present in the trend display view includes: presenting, via the user interface of the graphical configuration application, a user control for selecting the maximum number of process parameters to present in the trend display view; and receiving, via the user control, a selection of the maximum number. 3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising: assigning priority levels to the one or more process parameters corresponding to the first display region, wherein the one or more process parameters corresponding to the first display region are ranked according to priority level, and respective indications of sets of historized process parameter values of respective process parameters corresponding to the first display region and ranked above the maximum number are presented in the trend display view. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the maximum number of process parameters to present in the trend display view increases as a level of detail for the first display region indicating one or more process control elements increases. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more process parameters are default process parameters or are selected at the graphical configuration application or an operator application. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the trend display view includes one or more charts, each of the one or more charts presenting a graphical depiction of a different one of the one or more sets of historized process parameter values. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising configuring the trend display view to, when executing in the operating environment of the process plant: obtain, from the first display region and based on the link, a respective identifier for each process control element indicated in the first display region, retrieve, via a data historian device and based on the obtained identifiers, the one or more sets of historized process parameter values of the one or more process control elements indicated in the first display region, and present a respective graphical depiction of at least one of the retrieved one or more sets of historized process parameter values on the trend display view. 8. A system for configuring a display of historized process parameter values in a process plant, the system comprising: one or more devices disposed in the process plant each performing a physical function to control an industrial process; and a computing device including: one or more processors; and a non-transitory computer-readable medium coupled to the one or more processors and storing a graphical configuration application thereon, that when executed by the one or more processors, causes the computing device to: present, via a graphical user interface of the graphical configuration application in a configuration environment of the process plant, graphical user controls for a user to define display views, wherein the user graphically defines a layout of a display view having a display view type for each of one or more display regions using the graphical user controls, and the layout of the display view includes links between the display regions within the layout of the display view; obtain, via the graphical user controls, a user selection of a first display region within the layout of the display view to present a hierarchy display view which presents display views of sections of the process plant at different hierarchy levels, the display views of sections of the process plant including one or more process control elements; obtain, via the graphical user controls, a user selection of a second display region within the layout of the display view to present a trend display view which presents historized process parameter values; obtain, via the graphical user controls, a user selection to link the hierarchy display view to the trend display view, such that the trend display view presents, in an operating environment of the process plant, indications of one or more sets of historized process parameter values of one or more process parameters corresponding to the one or more process control elements that are indicated in the first display region; generate a link between the first and second display regions; determine a maximum number of process parameters to present in the trend display view; and download the configured display view including the link from the configuration environment into a user interface device for execution of an operator application in the operating environment of the process plant to thereby cause a presentation of the first and second display regions in the display view, wherein the user interface device presents (i) the hierarchy display view in the first display region, and (ii) the trend display view in the second display region which includes respective trends of the one or more process parameters corresponding to the one or more process control elements indicated in the first display region. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein to determine the maximum
