A stent (scaffold) or other luminal prosthesis comprising circumferential structural elements which provides high strength after deployment and allows for scaffold to uncage, and/or allow for scaffold or luminal expansion thereafter. The circumferential scaffold may be formed from degradable material, or may be formed from non-degradable material and will be modified to expand and/or uncage after deployment.

What is claimed is: 1. An endoluminal prosthesis, comprising: a scaffold having a plurality of circumferential rings patterned from a non-degradable material, said scaffold being configured to expand from a crimped configuration to a deployed configuration; wherein at least some of the circumferential rings comprise struts joined by crowns, and at least some of the circumferential rings are axially joined to adjacent circumferential rings, and at least some of the circumferential rings have at least one separation region in each said circumferential rings; wherein said at least one separation region comprises a lock and key junction, said lock and key being non-degradable material and wherein at least some of said separation regions are in struts of said circumferential rings and are arranged in a helical pattern along a length of the prosthesis and wherein said lock and key are configured to be held together during expansion with a degradable material and to separate after expansion of the scaffold to the deployed configuration in a physiologic environment. 2. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein the struts containing said separation regions join two crowns on a circumferential ring. 3. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein after expansion to the deployed configuration, the at least some circumferential rings separate into two or more segments which remain axially joined. 4. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 3 , wherein after expansion to the deployed configuration, the scaffold separates into two axially joined segments. 5. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 3 , wherein after expansion to the deployed configuration, the scaffold separates into three axially joined segments. 6. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein said helical pattern is configured to provide separation of the scaffold along spiral separation lines, with some circumferential rings axially connected. 7. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 6 , wherein said separation regions are configured to provide spiral separation lines which follow regular diagonal lines around said scaffold. 8. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 6 , wherein said separation regions are offset one from another and configured to provide spiral separation lines which follow meandering, irregular lines around said scaffold. 9. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 6 , wherein said spiral separation lines extend from one end of said scaffold to the other end. 10. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 6 , wherein said spiral separation lines extend along a partial length of said scaffold. 11. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 6 , wherein the helical pattern ranges from a partial turn to completion of 2.5 turns along the length of the scaffold. 12. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , where said scaffold has a pattern comprising serpentine, zigzag, helical, open cell design, or closed cell design. 13. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein the separation regions comprise a pre-formed break or gap in the circumferential ring and is joined by, covered by, or embedded in a biodegradable polymer and/or adhesive which degrades in the physiologic environment. 14. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein said at least one lock and key junction comprises male and female portions. 15. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein all crowns of at least some circumferential rings are free from separation regions. 16. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein upon expansion the separation region allows some movement before separation of the separation region after deployment. 17. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein the at least some circumferential rings each contain from 1-4 separation regions. 18. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein at least one circumferential ring contains at least one separation region located in a strut, wherein the strut joins a crown on the same ring, and wherein said strut and crown are not joined to an adjacent circumferential ring. 19. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein at least one circumferential ring contains at least one separation region located in a strut, wherein the strut joins a crown on the same ring, and wherein said strut and crown are not joined to an adjacent circumferential ring via an axial link. 20. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein at least one circumferential ring contains at least one separation region located in a strut, wherein the strut joins a crown on the same ring, and wherein said strut or crown are joined to an adjacent circumferential ring. 21. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein at least one circumferential ring contains one to four separation regions each located in a strut, wherein said struts join crowns on the same ring, and wherein said struts or crowns are joined to an adjacent circumferential ring by axial links. 22. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein the at least some circumferential rings containing one or more separation regions are axially joined to adjacent circumferential rings, and wherein the said circumferential rings remain axially joined after deployment of the scaffold in a physiological environment. 23. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 22 , wherein the circumferential rings are axially joined by links. 24. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein said prosthesis following expansion from a crimped configuration to a deployed configuration in a physiologic environment has sufficient strength to support a body lumen and low recoil from said expanded configuration. 25. An endoluminal prosthesis as in claim 1 , wherein the scaffold comprises a polymer coating, wherein the polymer coating comprises polylactide, poly-L-lactic acid, poly-DL-lactide, polylactide-co-glycolide, poly(lactic-co-glycolide), poly(n-butylmethacrylate), ethylene vinyl acetate, poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate), polyvinyl pyrrolidone, parylene, PVDF-HFP poly(vinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene), polystyrene, poly(L-lactide-co-epsilon-caprolactone), or poly(styrene-b-isobutylene-b-styrene). 26.
