The invention provides dimeric quinacrine derivatives and related compounds and compositions, methods of treatment and syntheses. The novel compounds exhibit unexpected anticancer activity and are useful in the treatment of a variety of autophagy-related disorders.

What is claimed is: 1. A compound having a chemical structure which is: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. A compound according to claim 1 which is: a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 3. A compound according to claim 2 , which is: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 4. A method of inhibiting autophagy in a biological system in which inhibition of autophagy is desired comprising exposing said biological system to an autophagy inhibiting effective amount of a compound according to claim 1 .
