What is claimed is: 1. A method of manufacturing an absorbent core component having a longitudinal centerline, comprising the steps of: a. providing an airlaid fibrous web material comprising cellulosic fibers and a binder; b. providing a spunbond fibrous web material; c. providing a pair of rolls forming a nip through which both of said airlaid fibrous web material and said spunbond fibrous web material can be processed together, said pair of rolls being adapted to mechanically deform the airlaid and spunbond web materials together via at least one of ring rolling, SELFing or rotary knife aperturing; d. deforming said airlaid fibrous web material and said spunbond fibrous web material together by processing through said pair of rolls and said nip, and thereby combining said web materials to form a processed combined web; and e. combining said processed combined web with an absorbent layer comprising an airlaid blend of cellulosic fibers and absorbent gelling material to form a layered absorbent structure. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the binder comprises latex. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the binder comprises thermoplastic material. 4. The method of claim 3 further comprising the step of heating the airlaid fibrous web material following an airlaying step. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the thermoplastic material comprises polyethylene. 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising a second step of deforming the absorbent layer prior to the combining step. 7. The method of claim 6 wherein said second deforming step is performed via at least one of ring rolling, SELFing or rotary knife aperturing. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the absorbent layer comprises latex. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the pair of rolls is configured to impart a pattern of features in a central region of the absorbent structure corresponding to the longitudinal centerline, that is different from features along either or both of side regions of the absorbent structure.
