What is claimed is: 1. A method for treating a cancer, the method comprising administering to a subject in need of treatment of a cancer, a glyceryltriacetate (GTA) compound in a therapeutically effective amount to treat the cancer, wherein the cancer is a glioma or a neuroblastoma. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein treating the cancer comprises decreasing cancer stem cell proliferation in the subject. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein treating the cancer comprises enhancing the cytosolic-nuclear shuttling of aspartoacylase (ASPA) and/or acetyl-CoA synthetase 1 (AceCS1). 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the GTA compound is administered to the subject orally, intragastrically, or is administered into a surgical incision, opening, or cavity in the subject. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering one or more additional cancer-therapeutic agents to the subject. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more additional cancer-therapeutic agents is temozolomide, bevacizumab, bis-chloroethylnitrosourea (BCNU), Lomustine, procarbazine, or vincristine. 7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the GTA compound and the one or more additional cancer chemotherapeutic agent are administered as a combination drug therapy. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering to the subject a surgical treatment to remove or reduce the cancer in the subject. 9.
