An apparatus and methods of decorating a metallic container are provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods used to provide a decoration or indicia on a predetermined portion of an outer surface of a metallic container body. The decorator includes at least one digital print unit, a transfer blanket, and a support element. The digital print unit transfers a decorating material to the transfer blanket to form a decoration on the transfer blanket. The support element then moves a metallic container into contact with the transfer blanket. In this manner, the decorating material is transferred to an exterior surface portion of the metallic container to decorate the metallic container. In one embodiment, the digital print unit is an electrophotographic system which transfers a toner material to the transfer blanket. In another embodiment, the digital print unit includes an inkjet print head which transfers an ink to the transfer blanket.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus for applying a decoration to an exterior surface of a metallic container, comprising: a blanket wheel; a plurality of blanket supports extending from the blanket wheel; a plurality of transfer blankets, each of the plurality of transfer blankets interconnected to one of the plurality of blanket supports; an electrophotographic system in a predetermined alignment with respect to the plurality of transfer blankets, the electrophotographic system operable to convey a toner material to the plurality of transfer blankets; a curing unit configured to at least partially cure toner material on a transfer blanket before the toner material is transferred to the metallic container; a feed unit to move the metallic container into contact with a transfer blanket of the plurality of transfer blankets to transfer the toner material from the transfer blanket to the exterior surface of the metallic container to form the decoration, wherein two adjacent transfer blankets of the plurality of transfer blankets have a first spacing with respect to each other when positioned adjacent to the electrophotographic system, and wherein the two adjacent transfer blankets have a second spacing with respect to each other each time the two adjacent transfer blankets are positioned adjacent to the feed unit; and a cleaning system positioned downstream from the feed unit to remove residual toner material from the transfer blankets, wherein the two adjacent transfer blankets have a third spacing with respect to each other when positioned adjacent to the cleaning system. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the toner material includes at least one of a carrier and a colorant. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of blanket supports has a length that is variable. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises a plurality of electrophotographic systems each operable to convey one or more of a different color of toner material and a different decoration to the plurality of transfer blankets. 5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein a curing unit is associated with each of the plurality of electrophotographic systems such that toner material conveyed to the plurality of transfer blankets by a first one of the plurality of electrophotographic systems is at least partially cured before a second one of the plurality of electrophotographic systems conveys additional toner material to the plurality of transfer blankets. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of blanket supports is configured to pivot with respect to the blanket wheel, wherein each of the plurality of blanket supports comprises a first portion interconnected to the blanket wheel and a second portion pivotally interconnected to the first portion, and wherein each of the plurality of transfer blankets is interconnected to a second portion of one of the plurality of blanket supports. 7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electrophotographic system includes a conductor, a charging element, an exposure element, and a developer unit which supplies the toner material. 8. A method of forming a decoration on an exterior surface portion of a cylindrical container, comprising: providing the cylindrical container; transferring a first decorating material from a first digital print unit to a first transfer blanket interconnected to a blanket wheel of a decorator, the first digital print unit comprising one of an electrophotographic system and an inkjet print head and the first decorating material comprising at least one of an ink and a toner material; transferring a second decorating material from a second digital print unit to the first transfer blanket; curing at least partially the first decorating material on the first transfer blanket with a curing unit before the first decorating material is transferred to the cylindrical container, wherein the curing unit is positioned upstream of the second digital print unit to at least partially cure the first decorating material before the second digital print unit transfers a second decorating material to the first transfer blanket; positioning the cylindrical container in a feed unit of the decorator; and moving the exterior surface portion of the cylindrical container into contact with the first transfer blanket, wherein the first and second decorating materials are transferred from the first transfer blanket to the exterior surface portion of the cylindrical container, and wherein a second transfer blanket interconnected to the blanket wheel is separated from the first transfer blanket by a first distance when the first transfer blanket is positioned adjacent to the first digital print unit, and wherein the second transfer blanket is separated from the first transfer blanket by a second distance each time the first transfer blanket is positioned adjacent to the feed unit. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first transfer blanket is interconnected to a first blanket support extending from the blanket wheel, and further comprising at least one of: altering a length of the first blanket support; and pivoting the first blanket support relative to the blanket wheel. 10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising a cleaning system positioned downstream from the feed unit to remove residual decorating material from the first transfer blanket. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the second transfer blanket is separated from the first transfer blanket by a third distance when the first transfer blanket is positioned adjacent to the cleaning system. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the cleaning system is positioned between the feed unit and the first digital print unit. 13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the feed unit includes a plurality of mandrels operable to rotate. 14. The method of claim 8 , wherein transferring the first decorating material from the first digital print unit further comprises: charging a conductor of the first digital print unit, wherein the first digital print unit is an electrophotographic system; exposing selected portions of the conductor to light to form a latent decoration; transferring the first decorating material to the latent decoration, wherein the first decorating material is the toner material; and transferring the first decorating material from the conductor to the first transfer blanket. 15. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: generating, by a control system, the decoration; and sending a signal, by the control system, to the first digital print unit, wherein the signal causes the first digital print unit to transfer the first decorating material to the first transfer blanket. 16. An apparatus for decorating an exterior surface of a plurality of metallic containers, comprising: a transfer blanket comprising a first continuous belt of material; a first digital print unit in a predetermined alignment with respect to the transfer blanket, the first digital print unit comprising an electrophotographic system or an inkjet print head operable to convey a first ink or a first toner material to the transfer blanket; a second digital print unit positioned downstream from the first digital print unit to transfer a second ink or a second toner material to the transfer blanket; a curing unit positioned downstream from the first digital print unit and upstream of the second digital print unit and configured to at least partially cure the first ink or the first toner material on the transfer blanket after the first ink or the first toner material is applied to the transfer blanket by the fir
