Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Rod link reducer assemblies, systems, and methods thereof. The rod link reducer assembly provides a manipulator rod having a first end, a second end, and an elongate body extending along a body axis between the first end and the second end. A post extends outwardly from the rod. A rod manipulating joint comprise an elongate joint rod extending along a joint rod axis, a first coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod, the first coupling clamp releasably connectable to the post, and a second coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod adjacent to and rotatable about the joint rod relative to the first coupling clamp. The second coupling clamp is releasably connectable to a shaft. A biasing member is adapted to bias the second clamp against the first clamp.

What is claimed is: 1. A rod link reducer assembly comprising: a manipulator rod having a first end, a second end, and an elongate body extending along a body axis between the first end and the second end, wherein the second end of the manipulator rod comprises a tip, the tip comprising a receiver to releasably secure a construct therein; a handle transversely attached near the first end of the manipulator rod and adapted to rotate the receiver about the body axis to align a rod of the construct, the handle having a free end to allow a user to grip the handle; a first post extending outwardly from the manipulator rod; a second post; a biasing member in the form of a clamp; and a rod manipulating joint comprising: an elongate joint rod extending along a joint rod axis; a first coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod, the first coupling clamp adapted to releasably clamp the first post, wherein the first coupling clamp comprises a first star grind on an inferior surface of the first coupling clamp; and a second coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod adjacent to and rotatable about the joint rod relative to the first coupling clamp, the second coupling clamp releasably connectable to the second post, wherein at least one of the first coupling clamp or the second coupling clamp includes inner teeth, wherein the second coupling clamp comprises a second star grind on a superior surface of the second coupling clamp configured to engage the first star grind, wherein at least one of the first post or the second post includes a third star grind, and wherein the inner teeth interface with the third star grind, wherein the biasing member includes a lever having a free end and a cam distal from the free end, wherein the biasing member is configured to be rotatably connected to the joint rod. 2. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the inner teeth are formed on a superior clamp portion of the first coupling clamp and/or the second coupling clamp. 3. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the inner teeth are formed on an inferior clamp portion of the first coupling clamp and/or the second coupling clamp. 4. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , where the inner teeth are formed on both a superior clamp portion and an inferior clamp portion of the first coupling clamp and/or the second coupling clamp. 5. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the third star grind extends parallel to a longitudinal axis of the first post and/or second post. 6. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the third star grind extends around an entire diameter of the first post and/or second post. 7. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the third star grind extends around a partial diameter of the first post and/or second post. 8. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the biasing member is adapted to bias the second clamp against the first clamp. 9. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , the handle is removably attached to the manipulator rod and has a faceted receiver adapted to receive a faceted interface of the first end. 10. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the tip comprises a receiver axis extending orthogonally to the body axis. 11. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 10 , wherein the receiver further comprises a securing member extending at an angle oblique to the receiver axis. 12. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the first post has a cylindrical cross-section. 13. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the first post has a connected end connected to the manipulator rod and a free end having a larger cross-section than the connected end. 14. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first coupling clamp and the second coupling clamp comprises a superior clamp portion and an inferior clamp portion movable along the joint rod relative to the superior clamp portion. 15. The rod link reducer assembly according to claim 14 , wherein the superior clamp portion of the first coupling clamp comprises a first clamping surface extending at a first angle oblique to the joint rod axis and a second clamping surface extending at a second angle oblique to the joint rod axis. 16. A rod link reducer assembly for adjusting an existing vertebral construct comprising: a manipulator rod having a handle at a first end and a second end adapted to attach to a rod in the existing vertebral construct, the manipulator further having an elongate body extending along a body axis between the first end and the second end, the handle adapted to rotate the elongate body about the body axis, wherein the second end of the manipulator rod comprises a tip, the tip comprising a receiver to releasably secure the existing vertebral construct therein; a handle transversely attached near the first end of the manipulator rod and adapted to rotate the receiver about the body axis to align a rod of the existing vertebral construct, the handle having a free end to allow a user to grip the handle; a first post fixedly attached to and extending laterally from the manipulator rod about a longitudinal post axis; a shaft; a rod manipulating joint including: an elongate joint rod extending along a joint rod axis transverse to the longitudinal post axis; a first coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod, the first coupling clamp adapted to releasably clamp the first post, the first coupling clamp including an inferior surface having a first star grind; and a second coupling clamp disposed along the joint rod adjacent to and rotatable about the joint rod relative to the first coupling clamp, the second coupling clamp releasably connectable to the shaft, wherein at least one of the first coupling clamp or the second coupling clamp includes inner teeth.
