Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system for routing signals in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) includes one or more local Digital Access Units (DAUs) located at a local location and one or more remote DAUs located at one or more remote locations. Each of the one or more local DAUs includes an optical port coupled to an upstream unit. The upstream unit includes at least one of a repeater, a baseband unit, a Base Transceiver Station (BTS), or a DAU. The one or more remote DAUs are coupled to the one or more local DAUs via one or more optical cables. A distance between the local location and each of the one or more remote locations is greater than two kilometers.

What is claimed is: 1. A system for routing signals in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS), the system comprising: one or more repeaters configured to receive a radio frequency (RF) signal from an antenna and convert the RF signal to an optical signal; one or more local Digital Access Units (DAUs) located at a local location, each of the one or more local DAUs including an optical port coupled to one of the one or more repeaters via an optical cable, the optical port configured to receive the optical signal from the one of the one or more repeaters; and one or more remote DAUs located at one or more remote locations, wherein the one or more remote DAUs include at least one optical port and are coupled to the one or more local DAUs via one or more optical cables coupled to the at least one optical port. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more local DAUs are configured to communicate with the one or more remote DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more remote DAUs are configured to communicate with the one or more local DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more local DAUs is configured to receive signals via an RE cable coupled to an RF port and transmit the signals to the one or more remote DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more remote DAUs is configured to receive signals via an RIP cable coupled to an RF port and transmit the signals to the one or more local DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more local DAUs are further configured to receive RE signals via an RF cable coupled to a base transceiver station (BTS). 7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the BTS is not co-located with the one or more local DAUs. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein a distance between the local location and each of the one or more remote locations is greater than two kilometers. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system includes two or more local DAUs located at the local location and one remote DAU located at one of the one or more remote locations. 10. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more local DAUs also include a RF port configured to send and receive signals; and wherein each of the one or more remote DAUs also include a RF port configured to send and receive signals. 11. A method of routing signals in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS), the method comprising: providing one or more local Digital/Access Units (DAUs) at a local location, each of the one or more local DAUs being coupled to each other and operable to route signals between the one or more local DAUs and including an optical port; coupling, using the optical port, each of the one or more local DAUs to an upstream unit; providing one or more remote DAUs at one or more remote locations; and coupling the one or more remote DAUs to the one or more local DAUs via one or more optical cables; receiving, by one or more local DAUs, from one or more repeater antennas, an optical signal converted from an RF signal by the one or more repeater antennas; and transmitting data from the RF signals to the one or more remote DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: receiving, by the one or more local DAUs, RF signals; and transmitting data from the RF signals to the one or more remote DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein receiving, by the one or more local DAUs, the RF signals includes receiving the RF signals via an RF cable coupled to a base transceiver station (BTS). 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the BTS is not co-located with the one or more local DAUs. 15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: receiving, by the one or more remote DAUs, RF signals; and transmitting data from the RF signals to the one or more local DAUs via the one or more optical cables. 16. The method of claim 11 , wherein a distance between the local location and each of the one or more remote locations is greater than two kilometers. 17. The method of claim 11 , wherein two or more local DAUs are provided at the local location and one remote DAU is provided at one of the one or more remote locations. 18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more local DAUs include an RF port.
