An absorbent core for use in an absorbent article, the absorbent core including a first absorbent layer comprising a first substrate, a layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles deposited on the first substrate on a deposition area and a fibrous layer of thermoplastic adhesive material covering the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles, and a second absorbent layer comprising a second substrate and a mixed layer comprising a mixture of second superabsorbent particles and cellulosic fibers deposited on the second substrate. The first and second absorbent layers are combined together such that at least a portion of the fibrous thermoplastic adhesive material of the first absorbent layer contacts at least a portion of the mixed layer of the second absorbent layer.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for making an absorbent core, the method comprising the steps of: depositing a layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles on a first substrate in a manner to define: a plurality of land areas where the first superabsorbent polymer particles are present, a plurality of junction areas that are substantially free of the first superabsorbent polymer particles, and a first channel extending generally parallel to a longitudinal centerline of the core; wherein the plurality of land areas form transversally oriented bars extending generally parallel to a transversal centerline; wherein the transversally oriented bars are separated by the junction areas; wherein the first channel is free of the first superabsorbent particles; wherein the first channel is defined by continuous side wall portions bonded to the first substrate; and wherein the longitudinal centerline of the core is perpendicular to the transversal centerline of the core; forming a first absorbent layer by depositing on the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles a thermoplastic adhesive material in fibrous form to form a fibrous layer of thermoplastic adhesive material applied over the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles; forming a second absorbent layer by depositing a homogenous mixed layer comprising second superabsorbent polymer particles and cellulosic fibers on an inner surface of a second substrate, wherein the homogenous mixed layer is continuously distributed at a generally constant basis weight; combining together the first absorbent layer and the second absorbent layer so that at least a portion of the fibrous thermoplastic adhesive material of the first absorbent layer contacts at least a portion of the mixed layer of the second absorbent layer; folding the first substrate around longitudinal side edges of the first and second absorbent layers; and attaching the first substrate to an outer surface of the second substrate to form a C-wrap. 2. The method for making an absorbent core of claim 1 , wherein the first superabsorbent polymer particles are deposited on a deposition area of the first substrate thereby forming discrete land areas separated by junction areas substantially free of superabsorbent polymer particles. 3. The method for making an absorbent core of claim 2 , wherein the step of depositing the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles on the first substrate comprises depositing the first superabsorbent polymer particles on the first substrate with a printing roll having a plurality of recesses arranged in a pattern corresponding to the land areas and the junction areas for delivering the first superabsorbent polymer particles to the first substrate. 4. The method of claim 1 , comprising the step of profiling the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles in a longitudinal direction such that a caliper of a transversally oriented bar in a middle region of the absorbent core at a point along the transversal centerline is greater than a caliper of a transversally oriented bar in a front region or a back region of the absorbent core at the same point along the transversal centerline. 5. The method of claim 1 , comprising the step of profiling the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles in a transverse direction. 6. The method of claim 1 , comprising the step of providing a weight ratio of the first superabsorbent polymer particles to the second superabsorbent polymer particles and the cellulosic fibers of from about 0.1 to about 3. 7. The method of claim 1 , comprising the step of depositing the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles on the first substrate in a manner to define a second channel within the first absorbent layer, wherein the second channel extends generally parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the core. 8. The method of claim 7 , comprising the step of depositing the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles on the first substrate in a manner to define a third channel and a fourth channel within the first absorbent layer, wherein the third channel and the fourth channel extend generally parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the core. 9. The method of claim 1 , comprising the step of treating the first substrate to be more hydrophilic than the second substrate. 10. The method of claim 1 , comprising deposition of the first superabsorbent polymer particles and the homogenous mixed layer in a non-rectangular deposition pattern on their respective substrate. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein a deposition area of the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles is smaller than a deposition area of the homogeneous mixed layer. 12. A method for making an absorbent core, the method comprising the steps of: depositing a layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles on a first substrate in a manner to define a plurality of land areas where the first superabsorbent polymer particles are present, a plurality of junction areas that are substantially free of the first superabsorbent polymer particles, and a first channel within the first absorbent layer and extending generally parallel to a longitudinal centerline of the core, wherein the plurality of land areas form transversally oriented bars oriented generally parallel to a transversal centerline, wherein the longitudinal centerline is perpendicular to the transversal centerline, wherein the transversally oriented bars are separated by the junction areas, wherein the transversally oriented bars create a profiled layer of the first superabsorbent polymer particles such that a caliper of the land areas where the first absorbent polymer particles exists varies over the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles, and wherein the first channel is free of the first superabsorbent particles and is defined by continuous side wall portions bonded to the first substrate; forming a first absorbent layer by depositing on the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles a thermoplastic adhesive material in fibrous form to form a fibrous layer of thermoplastic adhesive material applied over the layer of first superabsorbent polymer particles; forming a second absorbent layer by depositing a homogenous mixed layer comprising second superabsorbent polymer particles and cellulosic fibers on an inner surface of a second substrate, wherein the homogenous mixed layer is continuously distributed at a generally constant basis weight; combining together the first absorbent layer and the second absorbent layer so that at least a portion of the fibrous thermoplastic adhesive material of the first absorbent layer contacts at least a portion of the mixed layer of the second absorbent layer; folding the first substrate around longitudinal side edges of the first and second absorbent layers; and attaching the first substrate to an outer surface of the second substrate for form a C-wrap. 13.
