Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Polarizing beam splitters and systems incorporating such beam splitters are described. More specifically, polarizing beam splitters and systems with such beam splitters that incorporate multilayer optical films and reflect imaged light towards a viewer or viewing screen with high effective resolution are described.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: bonding a multilayer reflective polarizer to a first cover via a first optical adhesive; and treating the multilayer reflective polarizer while bonded to the first cover resulting in the multilayer reflective polarizer becoming configured to reflect an incident imaged light with the reflected image light having an effective pixel resolution of less than 12 microns. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein treating the multilayer reflective polarizer comprises applying vacuum to the reflective polarizer while bonded to the first cover. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein treating the multilayer reflective polarizer comprises applying heat and pressure to the reflective polarizer while bonded to the first cover. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first cover comprises a prism. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first optical adhesive comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive. 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising bonding the multilayer reflective polarizer to a second cover via a second optical adhesive after the treatment of the multilayer reflective polarizer. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treatment of the multilayer reflective polarizer results in the reflected image light having an effective pixel resolution of less than 9 microns. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the treatment of the multilayer reflective polarizer results in the reflected image light having an effective pixel resolution of less than 6 microns. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the effective pixel resolution of the imaged light is less than 6 microns after reflection from the polarizing beam splitter. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first cover comprises glass or plastic.
