Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed is a system to engage one or more tools. In the system a drive shaft and collet may be assembled to engage and disengage, selectively, a plurality of tools. Further, a tracking device may be used to track a location of at least a portion of the tool.

What is claimed is: 1. A trackable powered drill assembly, comprising: a powered drill motor housing having an exterior surface extending from a first end to a second end; a collet assembly having a powered drill motor housing connection configured to fixedly engage the second end of the powered drill motor housing, wherein the powered drill motor housing connection allows a connection between the powered drill motor housing and the collet assembly; an attachment member extending from a first attachment end to a second attachment end and having an internal surface forming a bore within the attachment member, wherein the collet assembly is configured to be at least partially received within the bore to at least in part form a first locking assembly; a second locking assembly configured to limit rotational movement of the attachment member relative to the collet assembly; a tracking device fixed to the exterior surface of the powered drill motor housing and configured to allow navigation of the trackable powered drill assembly; and wherein the second locking assembly includes a locking seat configured to axially receive an axially extending locking member; wherein upon engagement of the axially extending locking member into the locking seat, movement of the attachment member relative to the collet assembly is substantially limited. 2. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising: a tracking device mount connected to the tracking device; wherein the tracking device mount defines a through bore, wherein the tracking device mount is coupled, via a friction fit through the throughbore, to the exterior surface of the powered drill motor housing; wherein the tracking device is fixed to the powered drill motor housing via the friction fit; wherein the second locking assembly is configured to rotationally fix the attachment member to the collet assembly. 3. The assembly of claim 2 , further comprising: a tool having a tool tip extending from the attachment member. 4. A trackable powered drill assembly, comprising: a powered drill motor housing having an exterior surface extending from a first end to a second end; a collet assembly having a powered drill motor housing connection configured to fixedly engage the second end of the powered drill motor housing, wherein the powered drill motor housing connection allows a connection between the powered drill motor housing and the collet assembly; an attachment member extending from a first attachment end to a second attachment end and having an internal surface forming a bore within the attachment member, wherein the collet assembly is configured to be at least partially received within the bore to at least in part form a first locking assembly; a second locking assembly configured to limit rotational movement of the attachment member relative to the collet assembly; and a tracking device fixed to the exterior surface of the powered drill motor housing and configured to allow navigation of the trackable powered drill assembly; wherein the second locking assembly includes: a first groove formed in the internal surface of the attachment member; a second groove formed in an external surface of a collet housing of the collet assembly; and a wedge moveable within the second groove relative to the collet housing into the first groove; wherein the wedge is configured to wedge between the internal surface of the attachment member and the external surface of the collet housing. 5. The assembly of claim 4 , wherein the second locking assembly further includes: a collar having a collar internal surface with a helical groove formed in the collar internal surface; a wedge moving member; wherein the wedge moving member is engaged in the wedge and the collar internal surface to be moved by the collar; wherein the collar is configured to be rotated in a first direction relative to the collet housing to move the wedge moving member in a first longitudinal direction and rotated in a second direction relative to the collet housing to move the wedge moving member in a second longitudinal direction. 6. A trackable powered drill assembly, comprising: a powered drill motor housing having an exterior surface extending from a first end to a second end; a collet assembly having a powered drill motor housing connection configured to fixedly engage the second end of the powered drill motor housing, wherein the powered drill motor housing connection allows a connection between the powered drill motor housing and the collet assembly; an attachment member extending from a first attachment end to a second attachment end and having an internal surface forming a bore within the attachment member, wherein the collet assembly is configured to be at least partially received within the bore to at least in part form a first locking assembly; a second locking assembly configured to limit rotational movement of the attachment member relative to the collet assembly; and a tracking device fixed to the exterior surface of the powered drill motor housing and configured to allow navigation of the trackable powered drill assembly; wherein the second locking assembly includes: a tab extending from the internal surface of the attachment member; and an indent formed in an external surface of a collet housing of the collet assembly; wherein at least a portion of the tab is configured to be moved into the indent. 7. The assembly of claim 6 , wherein the second locking assembly further includes: a wave spring positioned on the collet housing; a d-ring biased by the wave spring towards the indent; a protrusion extending from the internal surface of the attachment member to engage an edge of the d-ring; wherein the wave spring is further configured to bias the attachment member towards the indent by biasing the d-ring that engages the protrusion. 8. A trackable powered drill assembly, comprising: a collet assembly having a collet housing having a powered drill motor housing connection configured to fixedly engage a first end of a powered drill motor housing, wherein the powered drill motor housing connection forms a selectively rigid connection feature with the powered drill motor housing; an elongated member extending from a first member end to a second member end, the elongated member having an internal surface forming a bore within the elongated member, wherein the collet assembly is configured to be at least partially received within the bore to at least in part form a first elongated member locking feature; and a second elongated member locking feature having a first portion provided on the collet housing and a second portion formed on the elongated member; wherein the second elongated member locking feature is configured to at least substantially limit rotational movement of the elongated member relative to the collet assembly and a tracking device; wherein the elongated member includes a first exterior elongated member portion extending along a first axis and a second exterior elongated member portion extending along a second axis; wherein the first axis intersects the second axis at an intersection; wherein the first exterior elongated member portion extends from the intersection to the first member end and the second exterior elongated member portion extends from the intersection to the second member end; wherein the first axis is formed at an angle of about 1 degree to about 179 degrees relative to the second axis. 9. The assembly of claim 8 , further comprising: the powered drill motor housing having an exterior surface extending from the first end to a second end. 10. The assembly of 9 , further comprising: the tracking device, wherein the tracking device
