Official abstract text for this publication.
Disclosed herein are wireless devices operable at intermediate wireless at ranges of thousands of meters, utilizing packets that include a preamble and a data payload. Devices may be such things as keypads, door latches, occupancy monitors, sprinkler controllers and other devices needing a communications link. Devices include an intermediate-range transceiver and a separate deployment wireless interface accessible from a mobile device such as a cellular telephone or portable tablet. Devices can be registered in a database and deployed for use by means of an application running on the mobile device. A scannable label bearing a code can be affixed to a wireless device providing a means of tracking, identifying and verifying a device through the deployment process. Detailed information on various example embodiments of the inventions are provided in the Detailed Description below, and the inventions are defined by the appended claims.

What is claimed: 1. A system of deployment for intermediate-range wireless communications devices using a mobile device, said system comprising: a second intermediate-range wireless device, the second intermediate-range wireless device comprising a transceiver functional for point-to-point wireless communication at intermediate ranges; a server providing access to a database containing an entry for the second intermediate-range wireless device, wherein the entry comprises communication parameters for communicating with the second intermediate-range wireless device; a mobile device comprising a wireless interface operable to communicate with a deployment wireless interface, said mobile device further comprising a network interface functional to communicate with the server and to receive the communication parameters for communicating with the second intermediate-range wireless device; and a first intermediate-range wireless device, comprising: an application board; a radio board; a transceiver coupled to the radio board, wherein the transceiver is functional for point-to-point communication at intermediate ranges with the second intermediate-range wireless device; the deployment wireless interface operable to communicate with the mobile device at short range; a processor; a non-volatile memory in electronic communication with the processor, the non-volatile memory storing a unit identifier and instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to: provide the unit identifier to the mobile device via the deployment wireless interface; and receive the communication parameters for communicating with the second intermediate-range wireless device via the transceiver, wherein the communication parameters are received from the mobile device via the deployment wireless interface. 2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said deployment wireless interface is operable to communicate with said mobile device using a Bluetooth protocol. 3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein each of said intermediate-range wireless devices comprises an administrative port. 4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein each of said intermediate-range wireless devices are functional to implement one side of a Weigand bridge. 5. A system of deployment for intermediate-range wireless communications devices using a mobile device, said system comprising: a second intermediate-range wireless device, the second intermediate-range wireless device comprising a transceiver functional for point-to-point wireless communication at intermediate ranges; a mobile device comprising a wireless interface operable to communicate with a deployment wireless interface; and a first intermediate-range wireless device, comprising: an application board; a radio board; a transceiver coupled to the radio board, wherein the transceiver is functional for point-to-point communication at intermediate ranges with the second intermediate-range wireless device; the deployment wireless interface operable to communicate with the mobile device at short range; a processor; a non-volatile memory in electronic communication with the processor, the non-volatile memory storing a unit identifier and instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to: provide the unit identifier to the mobile device via the deployment wireless interface; and receive communication parameters for communicating with the second intermediate-range wireless device via the transceiver, wherein the communication parameters are received from the mobile device via the deployment wireless interface. 6. The system according to claim 5 , wherein said deployment wireless interface is operable to communicate with said mobile device using a Bluetooth protocol.
