The invention claimed is: 1. A system, comprising: a gate valve, comprising: a body having a chamber along a fluid passage; a flow control element disposed in the chamber; a valve stem coupled to the flow control element, wherein the valve stem is configured to move the flow control element along an axial path of travel between an open position and a closed position relative to the fluid passage; at least one first groove facing and extending lengthwise directly along the flow control element, wherein the system is configured to supply a lubricant into the at least one first groove. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first groove extends lengthwise directly along the flow control element in a direction toward a first valve seat facing the flow control element. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first groove extends lengthwise directly along the flow control element in an axial direction along the axial path of travel. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gate valve comprises a first insert disposed in the chamber between the flow control element and the body, wherein the first insert comprises the at least one first groove. 5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one first groove is recessed into a first planar surface of the first insert, and the at least one first groove extends lengthwise directly along the first planar surface. 6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one first groove comprises a plurality of grooves in the first insert. 7. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one first groove has a length in a first direction along the axial path of travel and a width in a second direction crosswise to the first direction, wherein the width of the at least one first groove is greater than half of a total width of the first insert. 8. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one first groove extends along an entire length of a surface of the first insert disposed against the flow control element. 9. The system of claim 4 , wherein the first insert comprises a first surface facing the flow control element and an opposite second surface facing away from the flow control element, and the opposite second surface has a curvature configured to fit in a mating curvature in the body of the gate valve. 10. The system of claim 4 , wherein the gate valve comprises a second insert disposed in the chamber between the flow control element and the body, the second insert comprises at least one second groove facing the flow control element, and the system is configured to supply the lubricant into the at least one second groove. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first and second inserts are disposed on opposite sides of the flow control element. 12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first and second inserts are disposed on a same side of the flow control element. 13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the valve stem is configured to move the flow control element along the axial path of travel over a distance relative to first insert. 14. A system, comprising: a gate valve body having a chamber along a fluid passage, wherein the chamber is configured to house a flow control element that moves along an axial path of travel between an open position and a closed position relative to the fluid passage; and at least one first groove facing and extending lengthwise directly along the flow control element, wherein the system is configured to supply a lubricant into the at least one first groove. 15. The system of claim 14 , comprising a first insert disposed in the chamber, wherein the first insert comprises the at least one first groove. 16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one first groove extends lengthwise in a direction toward a first valve seat facing the flow control element, and the direction is along the axial path of travel. 17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one first groove is recessed into a first planar surface. 18. A system, comprising: a first gate valve insert configured to be disposed in a chamber of a gate valve between a flow control element and a body of the gate valve, wherein the first gate valve insert comprises at least one first groove extending lengthwise directly along a first surface configured to face a second surface of the flow control element, and the at least one first groove is configured to supply a lubricant to the second surface of the flow control element. 19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one first groove extends in a direction along the axial path of travel to direct the lubricant to a first valve seat facing the flow control element. 20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the first surface comprises a first planar surface, and the at least one first groove is recessed into the first planar surface.
