Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An irrigation pipe and method of fabrication that utilizes a pipe that is made of a durable material, e.g., stainless steel or aluminum. During fabrication, the pipe is equipped with a plurality of components, i.e., a flange assembly, a truss mount, and an outlet, without drilling, welding, or the like. In this manner, a method of fabrication is provided that enables a plurality of components to be assembled to the pipe without compromising the integrity of the pipe material or treated surface so that galvanizing or painting is not required after the plurality of components have been fitted to the pipe.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method of fabricating an irrigation pipe having a liquid conduit for delivering liquid, the method comprising the steps of: forming a portion of the liquid conduit by connecting a plurality of pipe sections; bending flatbar material to form an upper bracket and a lower bracket of a mount assembly, the upper bracket including a projection, the mount assembly being operable to provide at least one point of attachment on a first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections; enclosing a portion of the first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections via the mount assembly such that the projection of the upper bracket extends towards the first pipe section; forming a first region and a second region between the first pipe section and the mount assembly, the first region extending over a top of the first pipe section, the second region being annularly adjacent the first region; forming a notch in the first pipe section for receiving a portion of the projection of the upper bracket of the mount assembly therein; and pressing the portion of the projection of the upper bracket into the notch of the first pipe section. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the notch is substantially round. 3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of pressing the portion of the projection of the upper bracket into the notch of the first pipe section includes pressing the projection in an upward direction from horizontal. 4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the upward direction is between five to ten degrees from horizontal. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the notch is rectangular. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the upper bracket further includes a central section and an arm depending 90 degrees from the central section, the projection depending 45 degrees from the arm. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the central section of the upper bracket and a central section of the lower bracket are curved, the method further comprising the step of cradling the first pipe section between the curved central section of the upper bracket and the curved central section of the lower bracket. 8. A method of fabricating an irrigation pipe having a liquid conduit for delivering liquid, the method comprising the steps of: forming a portion of the liquid conduit by connecting a plurality of pipe sections; bending flatbar material to form an upper bracket and a lower bracket of a mount assembly, the upper bracket including a projection, the mount assembly being operable to provide at least one point of attachment on a first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections; enclosing a portion of the first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections via the mount assembly such that the projection of the upper bracket extends towards the first pipe section; forming a first region and a second region between the first pipe section and the mount assembly, the first region extending over a top of the first pipe section, the second region being annularly adjacent the first region; forming a rectangular notch in the first pipe section for receiving a portion of the projection of the upper bracket of the mount assembly therein; and pressing the portion of the projection of the upper bracket into the notch of the first pipe section in an upward direction between approximately five degrees and approximately ten degrees from horizontal. 9. A method of fabricating an irrigation pipe having a liquid conduit for delivering liquid, the method comprising the steps of: forming a portion of the liquid conduit by connecting a plurality of pipe sections; bending flatbar material to form an upper bracket and a lower bracket of a mount assembly, the upper bracket including left and right projections, the mount assembly being operable to provide at least one point of attachment on a first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections; enclosing a portion of the first pipe section of the plurality of pipe sections via the mount assembly such that the left and right projections of the upper bracket extend towards the first pipe section; forming a first upper region between the upper bracket and a top of the first pipe section, a first lower region between the lower bracket and a bottom of the first pipe section, and left and right regions between the first pipe section and the mount assembly, the left and right regions being annularly adjacent the first upper region; forming left and right rectangular notches in the first pipe section; and pressing the left and right projections of the upper bracket into the left and right notches of the first pipe section in an upward direction between approximately five degrees and approximately ten degrees from horizontal.
