Exemplary embodiments are directed to butterfly valves, generally including a body assembly and a locking cap. The body assembly generally includes a body, a disc rotationally disposed inside an opening of the body, a cog, and a stem passing through the disc and the body. The locking cap generally engages the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body. Methods of assembling and positioning a butterfly valve are also provided.

The invention claimed is: 1. A butterfly valve, comprising: a body assembly, the body assembly including a body, a disc rotationally disposed inside an opening of the body, a cog interlocked with the body, and a stem passing through the disc and the body, and a locking cap including an outer surface with a protrusion extending therefrom, wherein the cog and the locking cap comprise complementary splines engageable relative to each other; wherein the locking cap engages the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body, and wherein during engagement of the locking cap and the cog, the protrusion of the locking cap is indicative of a position of the butterfly valve. 2. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the cog comprises at least one male spline member and the locking cap comprises at least one female spline member engaging the at least one male spline member. 3. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the cog comprises at least one female spline member and the locking cap comprises at least one male spline member engaging the at least one female spline member. 4. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the complementary splines of the cog and the locking cap mate by a total of 360 degrees. 5. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the cog and the locking cap comprises a friction imparting surface. 6. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the position of the butterfly valve is a fully closed position, a fully open position, or an angle or degree of a partially open position. 7. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the protrusion includes a face forming two rounded points and a bridging area bridging the two rounded points. 8. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the locking cap includes a second protrusion extending from the outer surface approximately 180° relative to the protrusion. 9. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the body assembly comprises a body indicator bezel with visual indicators. 10. The butterfly valve according to claim 9 , wherein the protrusion of the locking cap aligns with one of the visual indicators to indicate a position of the butterfly valve. 11. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the locking cap is removable from the body assembly. 12. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the locking cap includes a vertical protrusion extending parallel to a vertical axis, the vertical protrusion including a hole configured to receive a lock therethrough. 13. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , comprising a cap bezel, wherein the cap bezel removably engages the locking cap to prevent the locking cap from being disengaged from the cog. 14. The butterfly valve according to claim 1 , wherein the locking cap is configured to be removably fastened to the stem to secure the locking cap in engagement with the cog. 15. A method of assembling a butterfly valve, comprising: providing a body assembly, the body assembly including a body, a disc rotationally disposed inside an opening of the body, a cog interlocked with the body, and a stem passing through the disc and the body, providing a locking cap, the locking cap including an outer surface with a protrusion extending therefrom, and engaging complementary splines of the locking cap with complementary splines of the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body, wherein during engagement of the locking cap and the cog, the protrusion of the locking cap is indicative of a position of the butterfly valve. 16. The method according to claim 15 , comprising engaging at least one female spline member of the locking cap with at least one male spline member of the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body. 17. The method according to claim 15 , comprising engaging at least one male spline member of the locking cap with at least one female spline member of the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body. 18. The method according to claim 15 , comprising engaging the locking cap with the cog via a friction force from a friction imparting surface on at least one of the cog and the locking cap to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body. 19. The method according to claim 15 , comprising: providing a cap bezel, and engaging the cap bezel with the locking cap to prevent the locking cap from being disengaged from the cog. 20. The method according to claim 15 , comprising fastening the locking cap to the stem to secure the locking cap in engagement with the cog. 21. A butterfly valve, comprising: a body assembly, the body assembly including a body, a disc rotationally disposed inside an opening of the body, a cog, and a stem passing through the disc and the body, and a removable locking cap assembly, the removable locking cap assembly including a locking cap and a cap bezel, wherein the removable locking cap engages the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body, wherein the cap bezel removably engages the locking cap to prevent the locking cap from being disengaged from the cog. 22. The butterfly valve according to claim 21 , wherein the locking cap is configured to be removably fastened to the stem to secure the locking cap in engagement with the cog. 23. A butterfly valve, comprising: a body assembly, the body assembly including a body, a disc rotationally disposed inside an opening of the body, a cog, and a stem passing through the disc and the body, and a removable locking cap assembly, the removable locking cap assembly including a locking cap and a cap bezel, wherein the locking cap engages the cog to prevent rotation of the disc and the stem relative to the body, the cap bezel removably engages the locking cap to prevent the locking cap from being disengaged from the cog, and disengagement and removal of the locking cap from the body assembly is needed before changing a position of the disc and the stem relative to the body. 24. The butterfly valve according to claim 23 , wherein the locking cap is configured to be removably fastened to the stem to secure the locking cap in engagement with the cog.
