Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed are various embodiments for facilitating the installation of a toilet over a closet collar for a drain pipe. According to various embodiments, a pipe extension for a closet collar adaptation assembly is positioned with the closet collar. The toilet is positioned over the closet collar adaptation assembly. At least one seal is provided between the toilet and the closet collar adaptation assembly to thereby facilitate passage of matter from the toilet through the closet collar.

First claim

Therefore, the following is claimed: 1. A system, comprising: a toilet positioned over a closet collar for a drain pipe in a flooring; and a closet collar adapter positioned under the toilet, the closet collar adapter forming at least one seal between the toilet and the closet collar, wherein the closet collar adapter comprises an upper wall, a side wall, and a flexible sealing material, wherein the upper wall and the side wall form a receptacle for a sealing component on an underside of the closet collar adapter, wherein an inner diameter of the side wall is greater than an outer diameter of a flange of the closet collar, wherein the flexible sealing material is positioned on at least part of an upper surface of the closet collar adapter, and wherein at least a portion of the flexible sealing material contacts and is flexed below an entirety of the upper wall by a horn of the toilet to form at least a portion of the at least one seal, wherein the closet collar adapter further comprises a pipe extension that is positioned within the closet collar. 2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an adapter plate fastened to the flooring using a plurality of first fasteners, the adapter plate being fastened to the toilet using a plurality of second fasteners. 3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the adapter plate further comprises at least one of an integrated antimicrobial agent or an antimicrobial coating. 4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a wax ring positioned in the receptacle for the sealing component, the wax ring forming at least a portion of the at least one seal. 5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a flexible seal ring in the receptacle for the sealing component, the flexible seal ring forming at least a portion of the at least one seal. 6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the flexible seal ring is configured to return at least partially to a previous shape when the flexible seal ring is removed from the receptacle for the sealing component. 7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the flexible seal ring comprises a foam rubber material. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the foam rubber material is composed of neoprene, polyvinylchloride (PVC) rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), thermoplastic rubber (TPR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), or ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the closet collar adapter forms at least a portion of a closet collar adaptation assembly. 10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pipe extension of the closet collar adapter is formed of a metal or plastic material. 11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sealing component is formed separately from the receptacle and is configured to be fitted within the receptacle underneath the closet collar adapter. 12. An apparatus, comprising: a closet collar adapter configured to be positioned under a toilet, the closet collar adapter comprising: an upper wall; a side wall, wherein the upper wall and the side wall form a receptacle for a sealing component on an underside of the closet collar adapter, and wherein the side wall has an inner diameter that is greater than an outer diameter of a flange of a closet collar for a drain pipe for the toilet; a pipe extension configured to be positioned within the closet collar; and a flexible sealing material positioned on an upper surface of the closet collar adapter, wherein at least a portion of the flexible sealing material is configured to contact and be flexed below an entirety of the upper wall by a horn of the toilet and to form a seal between the toilet and the closet collar adapter. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the sealing component comprises a wax ring that is configured to be positioned between the closet collar adapter and a flooring under the toilet. 14. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the sealing component comprises a flexible seal ring that is configured to be positioned between the closet collar adapter and a flooring under the toilet. 15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the flexible seal ring is configured to return at least partially to a previous shape when the flexible seal ring is removed from the receptacle for the sealing component. 16. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the flexible seal ring comprises a foam rubber material. 17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the foam rubber material is composed of neoprene, polyvinylchloride (PVC) rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), thermoplastic rubber (TPR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), or ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. 18. The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising an adapter plate and a fastener that is configured to fasten the toilet to the adapter plate. 19. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the adapter plate further comprises: a leg; and an additional fastener that is configured to fasten the leg to a flooring under the toilet. 20. The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising an adapter plate comprising an elongated slot configured to accept an anchor bolt at a plurality of radial distances relative to a center of the adapter plate. 21. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the pipe extension of the closet collar adapter is formed of a metal or a plastic material. 22. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the sealing component is formed separately from the receptacle and is configured to be fitted within the receptacle underneath the closet collar adapter. 23. A method, comprising: positioning a pipe extension of a closet collar adapter within a closet collar of a drain pipe for a toilet, wherein the closet collar adapter comprises an upper wall, a side wall, and a flexible sealing material, wherein the upper wall and the side wall form a receptacle for a sealing component on an underside of the closet collar adapter, wherein the side wall has an inner diameter that is greater than an outer diameter of a flange of the closet collar, and wherein the flexible sealing material is positioned on at least a portion of an upper surface of the closet collar adapter; and lowering the toilet onto the closet collar adapter to cause at least a portion of the flexible sealing material to be flexed below an entirety of the upper wall of the closet collar adapter and form at least one seal between the toilet and the closet collar adapter. 24. The method of claim 23 , further comprising fastening a closet collar adapter plate for the closet collar adapter to a flooring under the toilet. 25. The method of claim 24 , further comprising fastening the closet collar adapter plate to the toilet. 26. The method of claim 23 , further comprising positioning a flexible seal ring in the receptacle for the sealing component, the flexible seal ring being configured to return to a previous shape when removed from the receptacle for the sealing component. 27. The method of claim 26 , wherein the flexible seal ring comprises a foam rubber material. 28. The method of claim 27 , wherein the foam rubber material is composed of neoprene, polyvinylchloride (PVC) rubber, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), thermoplastic rubber (TPR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), or ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. 29.
