A catalyst fibrous structure having a catalyst metal carried on a fibrous structure, wherein (a) a Log differential micropore volume distribution curve thereof obtained by measurement using a mercury intrusion technique has a peak having a maximum micropore diameter in the range of from 0.1 μm to 100 μm: (b) a Log, differential micropore volume at the peak is 0.5 mL/g or more; and (c) an amount of a catalyst metal compound and a binder carried per unit volume is 0.05 g/mL or more. Also, a production method for producing a catalyst fibrous structure.

The invention claimed is: 1. A catalyst fibrous structure having a catalyst metal carried on a fibrous structure, which satisfies all the following requirements (a), (b) and (c): (a) a Log differential micropore volume distribution curve thereof obtained by measurement using a mercury intrusion technique has its maximum peak at a micropore diameter in the range of from 10 μm to 70 μm, (b) a Log differential micropore volume at the peak is 0.5 mL/g or more, and (c) an amount of a catalyst metal compound and a binder carried per unit volume is from 0.1 g/mL to 0.6 g/mL, wherein the fibrous structure is a fiber sheet, and wherein the fibrous structure comprises at least one type selected from silica fibers, alumina fibers, alumina-silica fibers, calcia-magnesia-silica fibers, glass fibers and carbon fibers, or mixed fibers of a combination of two or more types selected from silica fibers, alumina fibers, alumina-silica fibers, calcia-magnesia-silica fibers, glass fibers and carbon fibers. 2. The catalyst fibrous structure according to claim 1 , wherein the Log differential micropore volume at the peak is 0.7 mL/g or more. 3. The catalyst fibrous structure according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrous structure contains a combination of alumina-silica fibers and glass fibers. 4. The catalyst fibrous structure according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrous structure contains alumina-silica fibers. 5. The catalyst fibrous structure according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrous structure contains calcia-magnesia-silica fibers.
