An inductive power outlet for wirelessly powering a power receiver is presented that comprises a voltage peak detector that is configured to detect voltage changes that are indicative of increase in a system resonant frequency. The inductive power outlet is configured to respond to detected voltage changes by shutting down or issuing a warning, and the voltage peak detector is further used to detect communication signals initiated by the power receiver to the power outlet.

What is claimed is: 1. An inductive power outlet, having a primary inductor, for wirelessly powering a power receiver, the inductive power outlet comprising: a signal receiving circuit comprising: a peak detector configured to detect voltage, current peaks, or voltage and current peaks in the primary inductor; and a processor having a demodulator, the demodulator configured to determine frequencies of the peaks, wherein the power outlet is configured to either shut down or issue a warning indicating hazardous scenario if a peak of the peaks exceeds a normal operating voltage by the peak detector, and wherein the processor is configured to detect signals of the power receiver based on the frequencies. 2. The inductive power outlet of claim 1 , wherein the signal receiving circuit is configured to produce an output signal that corresponds to the signals of the power receiver, wherein the signals comprise information about the power receiver.
