What is claimed is: 1. A beverage cartridge for use in a beverage preparation machine, the beverage cartridge comprising: a first member having a lower open end portion and an upper end portion opposite the lower open end portion; a flange of the lower open end portion; an annular wall of the first member extending intermediate the lower open end portion and the upper end portion and defining at least a portion of an interior of the first member; a beverage ingredient in the interior of the first member; a lid welded to the flange of the first member; an inlet opening of the first member adjacent the lid, the inlet opening being in communication with the interior of the first member to permit an aqueous medium introduced into the inlet opening to travel into the interior of the first member and form a beverage with the beverage ingredient; a plurality of elongate members defining openings therebetween through which beverage travels; and a tubular outlet in the interior of the first member defining an outlet opening adjacent the lid for dispensing the beverage. 2. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the elongate members extend between a circular hub and an annular member. 3. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member has a major axis extending through the tubular outlet. 4. The beverage cartridge of claim 3 wherein the elongate members have an annular arrangement about the major axis. 5. The beverage cartridge of claim 3 further comprising a second member conjoined with the first member, the second member having an annular wall extending about the major axis. 6. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 further comprising a second member conjoined with the first member, the first and second members defining therebetween a fluid flow path for the beverage. 7. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 further comprising a second member conjoined with the first member, the first and second members defining a chamber upstream of the tubular outlet. 8. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member includes a chamber upstream of the interior of the first member for receiving an aqueous medium, the chamber including a wall having an aperture for permitting flow of the aqueous medium into the interior of the first member. 9. The beverage cartridge of claim 8 wherein the chamber has an annular shape and extends about the interior of the first member. 10. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member includes a major axis and the elongate members extend along the major axis. 11. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the upper end portion of the first member includes a recess. 12. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member includes an annular secondary wall and a shoulder extending radially and connecting the annular wall and the secondary wall. 13. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the flange has a teardrop shape and includes a handle portion. 14. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the upper end portion of the first member includes a planar upper wall and the annular wall tapers inwardly as the annular wall extends toward the planar upper wall. 15. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member has a unitary, one-piece construction. 16. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the first member is plastic. 17. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the elongate members are plastic. 18. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the lid is flexible. 19. The beverage cartridge of claim 1 wherein the lid is welded to the flange about a periphery of the lid.
