To determine a position of an object (100) parallel to the optical axis (120) of an optical device (1), the object (100) is illumined from a first illumination direction (210-1) and from a second illumination direction (210-2) and an image (230-1, 230-2) is acquired in each case. The position of the object (100) is determined based on a distance (250) between imaging locations of the object (220-1, 220-2) in the images (230-1, 230-2).

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for determining a depth of an object relative to a focal plane that is perpendicular to an optical axis of an optical device, the method comprising: illuminating the object from a first illumination direction and acquiring a first image of the object during the illumination, wherein an angle of the first illumination direction relative to the optical axis, as a first angle, produces a first imaging location of the object in the first image; illuminating the object from a second illumination direction and acquiring a second image of the object during the illumination, wherein an angle of the second illumination direction relative to the optical axis, as a second angle, produces a second imaging location of the object in the second image; determining a distance between the first and second imaging locations; and determining the depth of the object relative to the focal plane on the basis of the distance and further on the basis of the first angle and the second angle. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the determination of the position of the object furthermore comprises: quantification of the position of the object in relation to the focal plane of the optical device with the aid of trigonometric relationships between the first angle, the second angle and the distance. 3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the method furthermore comprises: positioning of the object at different reference positions parallel to the optical axis, wherein the method comprises, for each reference position parallel to the optical axis, illumination of the object from the first illumination direction and acquisition of the first image, and illumination of the object from the second illumination direction and acquisition of the second image, and determination of the distance, wherein the determination of the position of the object comprises, minimisation of the distance for the different reference positions. 4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the method furthermore comprises: driving of a focus unit of the optical device in order to position the object in the focal plane of the optical device as a function of the position which has been determined. 5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the determination of the distance comprises: determination of a first reference point of the object in the first image, and determination of a second reference point in the second image, wherein the distance between the first reference point and the second reference point is determined. 6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the determination of the distance is carried out for a plurality of pairs of first reference points and second reference points, wherein the determination of the position of the object is carried out with position resolution in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis on the basis of the plurality of pairs of first reference points and second reference points. 7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the distance is determined by means of techniques which are selected from the following group: landmark recognition; determining an optical centroid of the object in the first image and/or in the second image; user input; aberration correction. 8. An optical device, which is configured to determine a depth of an object relative to a focal plane that is perpendicular to an optical axis of the optical device, wherein the optical device comprises: an illumination device, which is configured to illuminate the object from a first illumination direction and from a second illumination direction; a detector, which is configured to acquire a first image of the object during the illumination from the first illumination direction and a second image of the object during the illumination from the second illumination direction, wherein an angle of the first illumination direction relative to the optical axis, as a first angle, produces a first imaging location of the object in the first image and an angle of the second illumination direction relative to the optical axis, as a second angle, produces a second imaging location of the object in the second image; and a calculation unit, which is configured to determine the depth of the object relative to the focal plane on the basis of a distance, as determined between the first and second imaging locations, and further on the basis of the first angle and the second angle.
