A quick-change height adjustment mechanism allows a reel stand to accommodate differently sized storage spools. A plate of the mechanism forms a cavity into which a post is seated and has at least one space which receive a spindle of the spool. A pin engages with the plate to hold the plate in position relative to the post.

What is claimed is: 1. A reel stand comprising: an upright post having opposite first and second sides; a plate having a base wall and a pair of side walls extending from the base wall which define a cavity, a horizontal centerline defined between opposite ends of the plate, at least one of the side walls having a space at least partially surrounded by the side wall, the space capable of receiving a spindle of a reel therethrough, the post being seated within the cavity with the base wall being positioned on the first side of the post and the space in the at least one side wall being positioned on the second side of the post, the plate being vertically movable along the post; a first pin carried by the plate and extending into the cavity, the first pin being positioned on the first side of the post, being positioned on a first side of the centerline and being vertically spaced from the centerline, the first pin configured to be engaged with the post and wherein engagement of the first pin with the post prevents vertical movement of the plate relative to the post and disengagement of the first pin with the post allows vertical movement of the plate relative to the post; and a second pin carried by the plate, the second pin being positioned on the second side of the post, being positioned on a second side of the centerline and being vertically spaced from the centerline. 2. The reel stand of claim 1 , wherein the second pin is below the centerline and the first pin is above the centerline. 3. The reel stand of claim 2 , wherein the space and the second pin are located on the same side of the post. 4. The reel stand of claim 1 , wherein the space and the second pin are located on the same side of the post. 5. The reel stand of claim 1 , wherein the first pin engages with pin supports in the post. 6. The reel stand of claim 5 , wherein the pin supports comprise recesses. 7. The reel stand of claim 1 , further comprising at least one roller mounted between the side walls of the plate and rotatable relative to the pair of side walls of the plate, the at least one roller overlapping the space. 8. The reel stand of claim 1 , wherein the post comprises two telescoping tubes. 9. The reel stand of claim 1 , further comprising a carrying handle attached to the post. 10. The reel stand of claim 1 , further comprising a reel stand crank assembly attached to the post. 11. The reel stand of claim 1 , wherein the second pin connects the side walls of the plate together. 12. The reel stand of claim 1 in combination with a second reel stand. 13. The reel stand of claim 1 in combination with a second reel stand and a storage spool. 14. A reel stand comprising: an upright post having opposite first and second sides, the post having a plurality of pin supports in the first side of the post; a plate having a base wall and a pair of side walls extending from the base wall which define a cavity, a horizontal centerline defined between opposite ends of the plate, each side wall having a space therein which is open to a top end of the side wall, the space capable of receiving a spindle of a reel therethrough, the post being seated within the cavity with the base wall being positioned on the first side of the post and the spaces being positioned on the second side of the post, the plate being vertically movable along the post; a first pin carried by the plate and extending into the cavity, the first pin being positioned on the first side of the post and being positioned vertically above the centerline, the first pin configured to be engaged with the pin supports and wherein engagement of the first pin with the post prevents vertical movement of the plate relative to the post and disengagement of the first pin with the post allows vertical movement of the plate relative to the post; and a second pin carried by the plate, the second pin being positioned on the second side of the post and being positioned vertically below the centerline, wherein the spaces and the second pin are located on the same side of the post. 15. The reel stand of claim 14 , further comprising rollers mounted between the side walls of the plate and rotatable relative to the pair of side walls of the plate, the rollers overlapping the space. 16. The reel stand of claim 14 , wherein the post comprises two telescoping tubes. 17. The reel stand of claim 14 , further comprising a carrying handle attached to the post. 18. The reel stand of claim 14 , further comprising a reel stand crank assembly attached to the post. 19. The reel stand of claim 14 , wherein the pin supports comprise recesses. 20. The reel stand of claim 14 in combination with a second reel stand. 21. The reel stand of claim 14 in combination with a second reel stand and a storage spool.
