This invention provides substituted acylanilide compounds and uses thereof in treating a variety of diseases or conditions in a subject including, inter alia, a muscle wasting disease and/or disorder such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy or Becker muscular dystrophy.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating, reducing the severity, reducing the incidence, or reducing cardiovascular failure in a subject suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, comprising the step of administering to said subject a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) compound represented by the structure of formula S-(III): or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said method further increases the physical function of said subject. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said method further increases the quality of life of said subject. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said method increases the survival of said subject. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said method further delays onset or improves symptoms of respiratory function.
