Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

There is provided a method for controlling a flow of fluid in the vas deferens in order to obtain a controlled male contraception. The method comprises gently constricting (i.e., without substantially hampering the blood circulation in the tissue wall) at least one portion of the tissue wall to influence the flow vas deferens, and stimulating the constricted wall portion to cause contraction of the wall portion to further influence the flow in the vas deferens. The method can be used for restricting or stopping the flow in the vas deferens, or for actively moving the fluid in the vas deferens, with a low risk of injuring the organ.

What is claimed is: 1. A device for controlling a flow of sperms in a vas deferens of a male patient, comprising: a constriction device for gently constricting the tissue wall portion of vas deferens to influence the flow in the vas deferens; a stimulation device for stimulating the constricted wall portion of vas deferens to cause contraction of the wall portion to further influence the flow in the vas deferens; a source of energy adapted to be positioned external to the patient's body and to release wireless energy for operating at least one of the restriction device and the stimulation device; and a control device configured to control the stimulation device to stimulate the wall portion and to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion. 2. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion, so that the flow in the vas deferens at least is restricted, and to control the stimulation device to stimulate the constricted wall portion to at least further restrict the flow in the vas deferens. 3. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constriction device to constrict the vas deferens wall portion to a constricted state, in which the blood circulation in the constricted wall portion is substantially unrestricted and the flow in the vas deferens is at least restricted, and to control the stimulation device to stimulate the constricted wall portion when it is in the constricted state to at least further restrict the flow in the vas deferens. 4. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the control device is further configured to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion so that the flow in the vas deferens is restricted but not stopped, and to control the stimulation device to stimulate the constricted wall portion to cause contraction thereof, so that the flow in the vas deferens is further restricted but not stopped. 5. The device according to claim 4 , further comprising a sensor configured to sense a physical parameter of the patient, and wherein the control device is configured to adjust the stimulation of the wall portion in response to the sensed parameter. 6. The device according to claim 5 , wherein the control device is configured to increase the intensity of the stimulation of the wall portion so that the flow in the vas deferens remains stopped when a pressure increase occurs in the vas deferens, wherein the physical parameter of the patient relates to the pressure in the vas deferens and the stimulation of the wall portion by the stimulation device is controlled in response to the sensed parameter, and wherein the physical parameter is a pressure in the patient's body. 7. The device according to claim 4 , wherein the control device is further configured to control the stimulation device to cease to stimulate the wall portion to increase the flow in the vas deferens, and to control the constriction device to release the wall portion to restore the flow of sperm in the vas deferens. 8. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion so that the flow in the vas deferens is restricted but not stopped, and to control the stimulation device is configured to stimulate the constricted wall portion to cause contraction thereof so that the flow in the vas deferens is stopped. 9. The device according to claim 8 , wherein the control device is further configured to control the stimulation device to cease to stimulate the wall portion to allow flow in the vas deferens, and to control the constriction device is configured to release the wall portion to restore the flow in the vas deferens. 10. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the control device is further configured to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion so that the flow in the vas deferens is substantially stopped, and to control the stimulation device to stimulate the constricted wall portion to cause contraction thereof so that to flow in the vas deferens is completely stopped. 11. The device according to claim 10 , wherein the control device is further configured to control the stimulation device to cease to stimulate the wall portion to allow flow in the vas deferens, and to control the constriction device to release the wall portion to restore the flow in the vas deferens. 12. The device according to claim 10 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constriction device to constrict the wall portion so that the flow in the vas deferens is stopped. 13. The device according to claim 12 , wherein the control device is configured to cause the constriction device to release the wall portion to restore the flow in the vas deferens. 14. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to calibrate the constriction of the wall portion by stimulating the wall portion while adjusting the constriction of the wall portion until the desired restriction of the flow in the vas deferens is obtained. 15. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to not perform constriction is while the stimulation is performed. 16. The device according to claim 1 , wherein the control device is configured to co-operate the constriction device and the stimulation device to move the fluid and/or other bodily matter in the vas-deferens. 17. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constricting device to constrict the wall portion restrict the flow in the vas deferens, and to cause the stimulation device to progressively stimulate the constricted wall portion to cause progressive contraction of the wall portion to move the fluid and/or other bodily matter in the vas deferens, and, wherein to progressively stimulate the constricted wall portion in the downstream or upstream direction of the vas deferens. 18. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constricting device to constrict the wall portion to restrict the flow in the vas deferens, and to control the stimulation device to stimulate the constricted wall portion to close the vas deferens either at an upstream end or a downstream end of the constricted wall portion, and to control the constriction of the wall portion to move the fluid and/or other bodily matter in the vas deferens. 19. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constriction device to varyingly constrict the wall portion to vary the flow in the vas deferens, and to control the stimulation device to progressively stimulate the constricted wall portion to cause progressive contraction of the wall portion to move the fluid and/or other bodily matter in the vas deferens, and to progressively stimulate the constricted wall portion in the downstream or upstream direction of the vas deferens. 20. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the control device is configured to control the constricting device to varyingly constrict different areas of the wall portion to cause progressing constriction of the wall portion in the downstream or upstream direction of the vas deferens.
