For example, methods and materials for using anti-Interleukin 4, anti-Interleukin 5, and/or anti-Interleukin 13 antibodies to treat asthma in a mammal identified as having a Th2 immune response using a whole blood cell-based cytokine whole blood cell-based cytokine assay are provided.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for treating a medical condition in a human, wherein said method comprises administering an anti-type 2 therapy to a human identified as having an Interleukin 4 to Interleukin 2 ratio in a whole blood cell based cytokine assay greater than 0.4, wherein the severity of said medical condition within said human is reduced. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said medical condition is asthma. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said anti-type 2 cytokine therapy is an anti-Interleukin 4 antibody therapy, an anti-Interleukin 5 antibody therapy, or an anti-Interleukin 13 antibody therapy.
