Disclosed are compounds of formulae: (I), and (II) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein the variables, R, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 21 , R 22 , R 23 , R 34 , R 37 , R 33 , R 39 , D, Q, Y, X, X 1 , X 3 , and X 4 are defined herein. These compounds are useful for treating Gram-negative bacteria infections.

What is claimed is: 1. A compound that is: 4-((4-aminophenyl)buta-1,3-diynyl)-N-(3-hydroxy-1-(hydroxyamino)-2-methyl-1-oxobutan-2-yl)benzamide; or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. 2. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, solvent, adjuvant or diluent. 3. A method of treating Gram-negative bacterial infections, the method comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of one or more compounds according to claim 1 . 4. A method of treating Gram-negative bacterial infections, the method comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of one or more pharmaceutical composition according to claim 2 .
