A balloon coating method for forming a coating layer containing a water-insoluble drug on the outer surface of a balloon of a balloon catheter, wherein the balloon catheter includes an elongate shaft possessing a distal portion at which is provided the balloon which is inflatable. The balloon coating method includes: holding the shaft on a support part capable of rotating about an axis of the balloon; and moving a dispensing tube for supplying a coating liquid containing the drug relative to the balloon in an axial direction of the balloon, while rotating the balloon together with the support part, thereby to coat the outer surface of the balloon with the coating liquid.

What is claimed is: 1. A balloon coating method for forming a coating layer containing a water-insoluble drug on an outer surface of a balloon of a balloon catheter, the balloon catheter including an elongate shaft possessing a distal portion at which is provided the balloon which is inflatable and which possesses an axis, the shaft possessing an outer surface, the balloon coating method comprising: positioning the shaft on a rotatable support part so that the outer surface of the shaft faces the rotatable support part, the balloon projecting distally beyond a distal end of the support part and being held by a clamp; and moving a dispensing tube relative to the balloon in an axial direction of the balloon while rotating the balloon together with the support part about the axis of the balloon and while also dispensing the coating liquid containing the water-insoluble drug from the dispensing tube to coat the outer surface of the balloon with the coating liquid, the balloon and the support part being rotated by a motor that is proximal of the balloon, a part of the shaft that is supported on the rotatable support part being located closer to the balloon than the motor. 2. The balloon coating method according to claim 1 , wherein the rotatable support part includes a support base provided with a rectilinear groove, the rotatable support part also including a lid mounted on the support base and movable between an open position and a closed position, and the positioning of the shaft comprises positioning the shaft in the groove, and further comprising moving the lid from the closed position to the open position so that the lid covers the groove and the shaft, and so that the shaft is held between the support base and the lid, the rotating of the balloon together with the support part comprising rotating the support base after the lid is moved to the closed position. 3. The balloon coating method according to claim 2 , further comprising clamping the shaft between the support base and the lid. 4. The balloon coating method according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning of the shaft comprises positioning the shaft on the support part while a core member is positioned inside the shaft. 5. The balloon coating method according to claim 1 , wherein the rotating of the balloon comprises rotating the balloon catheter while the balloon catheter is rotatably supported by a bearing section provided on a distal side of a rotation driving section configured to apply a rotating force to the support part, while rotating the balloon catheter by the rotation driving section. 6. The balloon coating method according to claim 1 , wherein the support part includes a groove and the positioning of the shaft comprises positioning the shaft in the groove. 7. The balloon coating method according to claim 1 , wherein a portion of the support part is rotatably supported on a bearing section, and the rotating of the balloon comprises rotating the balloon catheter by the motor which is located proximal of the bearing section. 8. A balloon rotating method for rotating a balloon catheter that includes an inflatable balloon at a distal portion of an elongate shaft, the shaft possessing an outer surface, the balloon rotating method comprising: positioning the shaft on a support part that is rotatable about an axis of the balloon so that the outer surface of the shaft faces the rotatable support part, the balloon projecting distally beyond a distal end of the support part and being held by a clamp; and rotating the balloon together with the support part about the axis, the balloon and the support part being rotated by a motor that is proximal of the balloon, a part of the support part on which the shaft is positioned and that is rotated by the motor being located distal of a distal-most end of the motor. 9. The balloon rotating method according to claim 8 , wherein the rotatable support part includes a support base provided with a rectilinear groove, the rotatable support part also including a lid mounted on the support base and movable between an open position and a closed position, and the positioning of the shaft comprises positioning the shaft in the groove of the support base, and further comprising moving the lid from the open position to the closed position so that the lid covers the groove and the shaft, and so that the shaft is held between the support base and the lid, the rotating of the balloon together with the support part comprising rotating the support base after the lid is moved to the closed position. 10. The balloon rotating method according to claim 9 , further comprising the shaft between the support base and the lid. 11. The balloon rotating method according to claim 8 , wherein the positioning of the shaft comprises positioning the shaft on the support part while a core member is positioned in a lumen in the shaft. 12. The balloon rotating method according to claim 8 , wherein the coating rotating of the balloon comprises rotating the balloon catheter while the balloon catheter is rotatably supported by a bearing section provided on a distal side of a rotation driving section configured to apply a rotating force to the support part, while rotating the balloon catheter by the rotation driving section. 13.
