Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A connection tool for a tongue manipulation device system includes a connector for coupling to a tongue advancer tether, a tension meter coupled to the connector, and a tensioner for applying a tension or pulling force to the connector via the tension meter. The tension meter is further configured to indicate when a determined tension or pulling force is applied to the connector such that the tongue advancer tether is kept taut.

The invention claimed is: 1. A connection tool for a tongue manipulation device system, the tool comprising: a connector configured to be coupled to a tongue advancer tether; a tension meter coupled to the connector; and a tensioner configured to apply a tension or pulling force to the connector via the tension meter, wherein the tension meter is further configured to indicate when a determined tension or pulling force is applied to the connector such that the tongue advancer tether is kept taut, and to indicate when an applied tension is too high or too low for the tether. 2. The connection tool as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connector comprises one of: a tension hook configured to be coupled to the tongue advancer tether; a gripping element configured to be coupled to the tongue advancer tether; or a catching element configured to be coupled to the tongue advancer tether. 3. The connection tool as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the connector further comprises a tension rod coupled between the one of: the tension hook, the gripping element or the catching element or the tension meter. 4. The connection tool as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the connector further comprises a tension line coupled between one of: the tension hook, the gripping element or the catching element and the tension meter. 5. The connection tool as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the tension meter comprises: a visual window coupled to a first of the connector or tensioner; an indicator coupled to the other of the connector or tensioner; and a spring configured to couple the connector to the tensioner, such that an indication of the applied tension or pulling force is generated by the indicator location within the visual window. 6. The connection tool as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the visual window comprises a scale, and wherein the indicator is configured to point to a position on the scale. 7. The connection tool as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the tension meter is a: linear meter; or rotational meter. 8. The connection tool as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connector comprises a tension line, wherein the tension line is configured to be knotted together with the tongue advancer tether. 9. The connection tool as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the tensioner comprises a handle configured to be operated relative to the connection tool body to apply a tension or pulling force to the connector via the tension meter. 10. The connection tool as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the tensioner comprises one of: an external retainer; a spooling spring; a linear spring; a mass or weight; a slider; or a motor. 11. A connection tool for a tongue manipulation device system, the tool comprising: a connector configured to be coupled to a tongue advancer tether; a tension meter coupled to the connector; and a tensioner configured to apply a tension or pulling force to the connector via the tension meter, wherein the tension meter is further configured to indicate when a determined tension or pulling force is applied to the connector such that the tongue advancer tether is kept taut, and to indicate when an applied tension is too high or too low for the tether; wherein the tension meter comprises: a visual window coupled to a first of the connector or tensioner; an indicator coupled to the other of the connector or tensioner; a spring configured to couple the connector to the tensioner, such that an indication of the applied tension or pulling force is generated by the indicator location within the visual window, and wherein the indicator comprises: a first region which is displayed when the tension is too low; a second region which is displayed when the tension is a desired level; and a third region which is displayed when the tension is too high. 12. The connection tool as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the first region is a first colour, the second region is a second colour different from the first colour and the third region is a third colour which is different from the first and second colours. 13. The connection tool as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the visual window comprises a scale, and wherein the indicator is configured to point to a position on the scale. 14. The connection tool as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the tension meter is a: linear meter; or rotational meter. 15. A method for providing a connection tool for a tongue manipulation device system, the method comprising: coupling a connector to a tongue advancer tether; coupling a tension meter to the connector; providing a tensioner, the tensioner applying a tension or pulling force to the connector via the tension meter; indicating with the tension meter a tension or pulling force applied to the connector such that the tongue advancer tether is kept taut and further indicating when an applied tension is too high or too low for the tether. 16. The method as claimed in claim 15 , wherein coupling a tension meter to the connector comprises: coupling a visual window to a first of the connector or tensioner; coupling an indicator coupled to the other of the connector or tensioner; coupling via a spring the connector to the tensioner; and generating an indication of the applied tension or pulling force by the indicator location within the visual window. 17. The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein generating an indication of the applied tension or pulling force by the indicator location within the visual window comprises: displaying a first region when the tension is too low; displaying a second region when the tension is a desired level; and displaying a third region when the tension is too high.
