A method of operating an electrical power distribution system including circuit protection devices is disclosed. Each circuit protection device includes a network interface, a processor, and a memory device. The method includes transmitting, by each device of the plurality of circuit protection devices, a network communication signal to the communication network. An approximate physical distance between the circuit protection devices is determined based at least in part on a characteristic of the network communication signals. A maintenance mode of each circuit protection device of a subset of the circuit protection devices is enabled in response to enablement of a maintenance mode of one circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices. The subset of the circuit protection devices is determined at least in part by the approximate physical distance of the circuit protection devices from the maintenance mode enabled one circuit protection device.

What is claimed is: 1. An electrical power distribution system comprising: a first circuit protection device comprising: a first network interface communicatively coupled to a communication network; a first processor; and a first memory device storing instructions that, when executed by said first processor, cause said first processor to transmit data to the communication network in a network communication signal; and a second circuit protection device comprising: a second network interface communicatively coupled to the communication network; a second processor; and a second memory device storing instructions that, when executed by said second processor, cause said second processor to: receive, using said second network interface, the network communication signal from said first circuit protection device; and determine a physical distance of said first circuit protection device from said second circuit protection device based at least in part on determining an attenuation of the network communication signal received from said first circuit protection device. 2. An electrical power distribution system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said second memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said second processor, cause said second processor to selectively enable a maintenance mode of said second circuit protection device based at least in part on the determined physical distance of said first circuit protection device from said second circuit protection device and a maintenance status of said first circuit protection device. 3. An electrical power distribution system in accordance with claim 2 , wherein the data transmitted by said first circuit protection device in the network communication signal includes the maintenance status of said first circuit protection device. 4. An electrical power distribution system in accordance with claim 2 , wherein said first memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said first processor, cause said first processor to transmit, using said first network interface, a maintenance status message to the network, and said second memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said second processor, cause said second processor to receive the maintenance status message, and determine the maintenance status of said first circuit protection device based at least in part on the maintenance status message. 5. An electrical power distribution system in accordance with claim 2 , wherein said second memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said second processor, cause said second processor to: determine if the physical distance of said first circuit protection device from said second circuit protection device is less than a threshold value; and enable the maintenance mode of said second circuit protection device when the physical distance is less than the threshold value and the maintenance status of said first circuit protection device indicates said first circuit protection device is in a maintenance mode. 6. An electrical power distribution system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said second memory device contains instructions that, when executed by said second processor, cause said second processor to: store, in said second memory device, the determined physical distance of said first circuit protection device from said second circuit protection device; and transmit, using said second network interface, a maintenance status message to said first circuit device if the physical distance is less than the threshold value and said second circuit protection device is placed in a maintenance mode. 7. A circuit protection device for an electrical distribution system, said circuit protection device comprising: a network interface communicatively coupled to the communication network; a processor; and a memory device storing instructions that, when executed by said processor, cause said processor to: receive, using said network interface, a network communication signal from an other circuit protection device; and determine a physical distance of the other circuit protection device from said circuit protection device based at least in part on determining an attenuation of the network communication signal received from the other circuit protection device. 8. A circuit protection device in accordance with claim 7 , wherein said memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said processor, cause said processor to selectively enable a maintenance mode of said circuit protection device based at least in part on the determined physical distance of the other circuit protection device from said circuit protection device and a maintenance status of the other circuit protection device. 9. A circuit protection device in accordance with claim 8 , wherein said circuit protection device wherein the received network communication signal includes the maintenance status of the other circuit protection device. 10. A circuit protection device in accordance with claim 8 , wherein said memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said processor, cause said processor to receive a maintenance status message from the other circuit protection device, and determine the maintenance status of the other circuit protection device based at least in part on the maintenance status message. 11. A circuit protection device in accordance with claim 8 , wherein said memory device stores instructions that, when executed by said processor, cause said processor to: determine if the physical distance of the other circuit protection device from said circuit protection device is less than a threshold value; and enable the maintenance mode of said circuit protection device when the physical distance is less than the threshold value and the maintenance status of the other circuit protection device indicates the other circuit protection device is in a maintenance mode. 12. A method of operating an electrical power distribution system comprising a plurality of circuit protection devices, each circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices comprising, a network interface communicatively coupled to a communication network including the plurality of circuit protection devices, a processor, and a memory device, said method comprising: transmitting, by each circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices, a network communication signal to the communication network; determining approximate physical distances between the circuit protection devices based at least in part on determining attenuation of the network communication signals transmitted by each circuit protection device; and enabling a maintenance mode of each circuit protection device of a subset of the circuit protection devices in response to enablement of a maintenance mode of one circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices, the subset of the circuit protection devices determined at least in part by the approximate physical distance of the circuit protection devices from the maintenance mode enabled one circuit protection device. 13.
