Method and apparatus to agitate a liquid are disclosed herein. An example apparatus includes a carrier having a base that includes a ridge extending from the base and a collar extending from the base. The example apparatus also includes a container supported on the base, the container movable between (A) a locked positon in which the ridge fixedly engages the container to non-rotatably couple the container to the base and (B) an unlocked position in which the container is disengaged from the ridge and the container is rotatable about the collar.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: lifting a container, coupled at a top and a bottom of the container to a carrier, from a first position in which the container is non-rotatably coupled to the carrier and a second position in which the container is rotatably coupled to the carrier; and rotating the container, when the container is the second position, about an axis of rotation to mix contents of the container. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the container is a first container, further including non-rotatably supporting a second container on the carrier while rotating the first container. 3. The method of claim 1 , further including lowering the container to the first position to non-rotatably couple the container to the carrier. 4. The method of claim 1 , further including removing a cap from the container to enable the container to move from the first position to the second position. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the axis of rotation is a first axis of rotation, further including rotating the carrier on a carousel about a second axis of rotation while the container is rotating about the first axis of rotation. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein lifting the container includes engaging a shaft with the bottom of the container. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein a base of the carrier includes an opening, and wherein lifting the container includes inserting the shaft through the opening to engage the bottom of the container. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the shaft is coupled to a rotation mechanism of a carousel, and wherein inserting the shaft through the opening includes placing the carrier on the carousel such that the shaft extends through the opening to engage the bottom of the container. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein rotating the container includes rotating the shaft, via the rotation mechanism, while the shaft is engaged with the bottom of the container. 10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the container includes a post extending from the bottom of the container, the post defining a notch, and the shaft having a protrusion to extend into the notch. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the first position, a rim of the container is engaged with a ridge of the carrier and a groove of the container is engaged with a collar of the carrier and, in the second position, the rim is disengaged from the ridge and the groove is engaged with the collar, and wherein the ridge extends from a base of the carrier a first distance and the collar extends from the base a second distance greater than the first distance. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein lifting the container includes moving the container a third distance from the base of the carrier, the third distance between the first distance and the second distance. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the container contains a liquid reagent with paramagnetic particles, further including suspending the paramagnetic particles when the container is rotated. 14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the container includes a throat extending from the top of the container, wherein the carrier includes a cover that is disposed over at least a portion of the top of the container, and wherein the cover includes an opening to receive the throat of the container. 15. The method of claim 14 , further including sliding the throat in the opening of the cover when lifting the container from the first position to the second position. 16. The method of claim 14 , further including rotating the throat in the opening. 17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the carrier and the container form a reagent cartridge containing a liquid to be use in an automated diagnostic analyzer, the method further including, prior to lifting the container, placing the reagent cartridge onto a carousel in the automated diagnostic analyzer. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein lifting the container includes lifting the container away from a base of the carrier. 19. The method of claim 17 , wherein, in the first position, a rim of the container is engaged with a ridge of the carrier and a groove of the container is engaged with a collar of the carrier and, in the second position, the rim is disengaged from the ridge and the groove is engaged with the collar. 20. The method of claim 17 , wherein rotating the container includes rotating the container in a back-and-forth movement between a first direction and a second direction opposite the first direction.
