A mounting device (10) is disclosed having a one-piece body (11). A slot (20) extends into this body (11), and is defined by a slot base (22) and a pair of spaced slot sidewalls (24a, 24b) that each extend from the slot base (22). The slot sidewalls (24a, 24b) are disposed in non-parallel relation to each other.

What is claimed: 1. A standing seam mounting device comprising: a mounting body comprising: an upper surface spaced apart from an oppositely disposed first lower surface, the upper surface comprising a flat section facing in a first direction and the first lower surface facing in a second direction opposite the first direction; a slot disposed adjacent the first lower surface, the slot extending into the mounting body and defined by a first slot sidewall extending to proximate the first lower surface and disposed at a first angle, a second slot sidewall extending to proximate a second lower surface parallel to the first lower surface, the second slot sidewall fixed relative to the first slot sidewall and disposed at a second angle different than the first angle, and a slot base extending between and connecting the first and second slot sidewalls along a first length; at least one seam fastener extendable through the mounting body and the second slot sidewall into the slot, the at least one seam fastener positioned closer to the second lower surface than the upper surface; and at least one mounting fastener extendable through the upper surface, the mounting body, and the slot base into the slot, wherein the first slot sidewall comprises: a first nose protruding into the slot and spaced from the second slot sidewall by a first distance greater than the first length; an upper planar section extending at the first angle from proximate the slot base to a centerline of the at least one seam fastener; and a lower planar section coplanar with the upper section and extending from a centerline of the at least one seam fastener to proximate the first nose, the first nose positioned between the lower section and the first lower surface, and wherein the second sidewall is substantially orthogonal with the flat section. 2. The standing seam mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the mounting body is of a one-piece construction. 3. The standing seam mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second slot sidewalls each comprise a planar section. 4. The standing seam mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the first angle is measured in the slot between the slot base and the upper section of the first slot sidewall and the second angle is measured in the slot between the slot base and the second slot sidewall. 5. The standing seam mounting device of claim 4 , wherein the first angle is greater than the second angle. 6. The standing seam mounting device of claim 4 , wherein the first angle is greater than 90°, and wherein the second angle is at least substantially 90°. 7. The standing seam mounting device of claim 1 , wherein a spacing between the first slot sidewall and the second slot sidewall progressively and continually increases proceeding away from the slot base and to the first nose. 8. The standing seam mounting device of claim 1 , wherein a third distance from the upper surface to the first lower surface is greater than a second distance from the upper surface to the second lower surface. 9. The standing seam mounting device of claim 8 , wherein the second distance and the third distance are measured along a line substantially orthogonal to the flat section. 10. A standing seam mounting device installed on a panel assembly having a first standing seam, the standing seam mounting device comprising: a mounting body comprising an upper surface spaced apart from an oppositely disposed first lower surface, the upper surface comprising a flat section facing in a first direction, the first lower surface facing in a second direction opposite the first direction; a slot disposed adjacent the first lower surface of the mounting body, the slot extending into the mounting body and defined by a first slot sidewall, a second slot sidewall fixed relative to the first slot sidewall, and a slot base extending between and connecting the first and second slot sidewalls, wherein the first slot sidewall extends to proximate the first lower surface and is positioned at a first angle relative to the slot base, and the second slot sidewall extends to proximate a second lower surface parallel to the first lower surface and is positioned at a second angle relative to the slot base, the second angle being different than the first angle; a first seam fastener extendable through the mounting body and through the second slot sidewall into the slot; and at least one mounting fastener extendable through the mounting body into the slot, wherein the second slot sidewall extends from the slot base at least substantially orthogonally to the slot base, wherein the first slot sidewall comprises: a first nose positioned at a lowermost end of the first slot sidewall proximate the first lower surface, the first nose protruding into the slot and toward the second slot sidewall; and a first flat section diverging away from the second slot sidewall, the first flat section extending from proximate the slot base to proximate the first nose, and wherein a first orthogonal distance between the flat section of the upper surface and the first lower surface is greater than a second orthogonal distance between the flat section of the upper surface and the second lower surface. 11. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the at least one mounting fastener extends through the slot base. 12. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the at least one mounting fastener comprises two mounting fasteners. 13. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the mounting body is of a one-piece construction. 14. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the first angle is greater than the second angle. 15. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the first angle is greater than 90° and the second angle is at least substantially 90°. 16. The standing seam mounting device of claim 10 , wherein the mounting body further comprises a first exterior planar surface extending from proximate the upper surface to proximate the first lower surface.
