Official abstract text for this publication.
A rail network is divided by track elements into track sections on which vehicles can travel. The vehicles request, from selected track elements, steps for assignment as a route element. Each of the selected track elements is respectively automatically assigned as a route element, under predefined conditions, for each vehicle which requests the steps for assignment as a route element to it, and outputs an assignment confirmation to the respective vehicle. For better protection of construction and/or maintenance work in the hazardous area of the rail network at least one of the track elements forms, after its integration into the rail network, a working zone and does not output the assignment confirmation for the respective vehicle until after an assignment release is input. The track element is provided with a release device into which the assignment release is input manually.

The invention claimed is: 1. A protection method for a rail network, which is divided by track elements into track sections and on which vehicles can travel, the method comprising: receiving a request from a vehicle to take steps for assignment of selected track elements as a route element; automatically assigning each of the selected track elements as a route element, under predefined conditions, for each vehicle that requests the steps for assignment as a route element and outputting an assignment confirmation to the respective vehicle; after an integration of at least one of the track elements into the rail network, forming with the at least one track element a working zone and only outputting the assignment confirmation for the respective vehicle after an assignment release has been input, wherein the at least one track element is provided with a release device into which the assignment release is input manually. 2. The protection method according to claim 1 , which comprises temporarily integrating the at least one track element that forms the working zone into the rail network between two initially adjacent track elements and then removing the at least one track element therefrom. 3. The protection method according to claim 2 , which comprises providing the at least one track element that forms the working zone with a device for determining a present position thereof and a present location of the working zone between the two track elements in dependence on the present position. 4. The protection method according to claim 1 , which comprises, to request the steps for assignment from the respective track element, determine with a vehicle control of the respective vehicle requirements and outputting the requirements by a communication device associated with the vehicle control to the respective track element. 5. The protection method according to claim 4 , wherein a track element control of the respective track element which receives the requirements of the respective vehicle relating to the respective track element from a communication device associated with the track element control, uses the received requirements to determine the assignment of the respective track element as a route element for the respective vehicle and outputs the respective assignment confirmation to the respective vehicle by way of the communication means assigned to the track element control. 6. The protection method according to claim 5 , which comprises providing to the at least one track element that forms the working zone, a track element control, the release device for release and a device for determining a present position as components of a mobile device. 7. The protection method according to claim 6 , which comprises providing the mobile device as a portable device to be carried by a person. 8. A protection system for a rail network, which is divided by track elements into track sections and on which vehicles can travel, the protection system comprising: equipment on the vehicles configured to request, from selected track elements, steps for assignment as a route element; and each of the selected track elements being configured to automatically assign itself as a route element, under predefined conditions, for each vehicle that requests the steps for assignment as a route element and to output an assignment confirmation to the respective vehicle; wherein at least one of the track elements is configured to form, after integration into the rail network, a working zone and only to output the assignment confirmation for the respective vehicle after receiving an input of an assignment release; said at least one track element including a release device into which the assignment release is to be input manually. 9. The protection system according to claim 8 , wherein the at least one track element that forms the working zone is configured to be integrated temporarily into the rail network between two initially adjacent track elements and to be removed therefrom. 10. The protection system according to claim 9 , wherein the at least one track element that forms the working zone comprises a device for determining a present position thereof, and said device is configured to specify a present location of the working zone between the two track elements in dependence on the present position. 11. The protection system according to claim 8 , wherein the respective vehicle is equipped with a vehicle control that is configured to request the steps for assignment from the respective track element, to determine requirements and to output the requirements by way of a communication device associated with said vehicle control to the respective track element. 12. The protection system according to claim 11 , wherein the respective track element is equipped with a track element control that is configured to receive the requirements of the respective vehicle relating to the respective track element by way of a communication device associated with the track element control, to use the received requirements to determine the assignment of the respective track element as a route element for the respective vehicle and to output the respective assignment confirmation to the respective vehicle by way of the communication means associated with the track element control. 13. The protection system according to claim 12 , which comprises a mobile device commonly embodying a track element control of the at least one track element that forms the working zone, the release device and the device for determining the present position. 14. The protection system according to claim 13 , wherein the mobile device is a portable device to be carried by a person.
