Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Apparatus ( 10, 200 ) for the provision of TNP therapy to a wound is described, the apparatus ( 10, 200 ) including: a waste canister ( 22, 204 ) into which fluid is aspirated from a wound by aspiration pump means ( 44, 248 ) and a fluid flow path ( 420, 422 ) for at least a part of said aspirated fluid on an outlet side of said aspiration pump means ( 44 ) wherein said fluid flow path ( 420, 422 ) on the outlet side comprises a silencing system ( 400 ) having a plurality of silencing elements ( 402, 404, 406 ) therein.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A negative pressure wound therapy apparatus comprising: a casing; a frame positioned inside the casing and fastened to the casing, the frame supporting a negative pressure source configured to provide reduced pressure to a wound, the negative pressure source mounted on the frame; and a silencer fixed to the frame and comprising a chamber fluidically connected to the negative pressure source and to an exhaust outlet, wherein the chamber defines an interior volume comprising sound absorbing material. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a waste canister configured to be fluidically connected to the negative pressure source, the waste canister further configured to be removably attached to the casing. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the waste canister comprises a recess configured to receive a portion of the casing. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the silencer is configured to reduce noise generated by the negative pressure source to less than 50 dbA. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the negative pressure source comprises a diaphragm pump. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sound absorbing material is further configured to filter wound odor. 7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the sound absorbing material comprises activated charcoal. 8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sound absorbing material is configured to absorb standing sound waves. 9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the silencer is attached to a substantially planar portion of the frame. 10. A kit comprising the apparatus of claim 1 and a wound dressing configured to be positioned over a wound. 11. A method of operating a negative pressure wound therapy apparatus, the method comprising: providing negative pressure from a negative pressure source to a wound dressing configured to be positioned over a wound, the negative pressure source mounted on a frame positioned in and fastened to a casing of the apparatus; and reducing noise produced by the negative pressure source with a silencer fixed to the frame and comprising a chamber fluidically connected to the negative pressure source and to an exhaust outlet, the chamber defining an interior volume comprising sound absorbing material. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising storing fluid aspirated from the wound in a waste canister removably attached to the casing. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein further comprising reducing noise produced by the negative pressure source to less than 50 dbA. 14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the negative pressure source comprises a diaphragm pump. 15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising filtering wound odor with the sound absorbing material. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the sound absorbing material comprises activated charcoal. 17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising absorbing standing sound waves. 18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the silencer is attached to a substantially planar portion of the frame.
