Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In various example embodiments, a system and method to provide status indictors on an image galley is disclosed. At least one item to be displayed in an image gallery on a client device is identified. Once identified, status information for the item is obtained. Subsequently, gallery rendering and display instructions are generated and transmitted to the client device. The rendering and display instructions include the status information and enables generation of status indicators from the status information for display over the image gallery at the client device. The rendering and display instructions may also include instructions for displaying the image gallery. The status information at the client device may be updated as status information changes.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving, via a user interface displayed at a client device, input specifying a search request requesting one or more items from a network-based marketplace; displaying, at the client device, an image gallery associated with search results from the network-based marketplace, the image gallery comprising a plurality of images representing items that are identified from a catalog of items listed by the network-based marketplace as matching the search request; displaying, at the client device and in the image gallery, status information in relation to the plurality of images representing the items from the catalog of items; receiving, at the client device and from a server associated with the network-based marketplace, an indication that a trigger event is detected and that indicates an item not represented in the image gallery and matching the search request has been added to the catalog of items; and responsive to receiving the indication that the trigger event is detected, updating, via the client device, the status information displayed at the client device to indicate the item not represented in the image gallery and associated with the search request has been added to the catalog of items. 2. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising submitting an image with the search request. 3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein displaying the status information comprises displaying a respective colored border around each image of the plurality of images, wherein a color of the respective colored border indicates a respective status associated with an item represented by the image. 4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the status information comprises visually identifiable graphics. 5. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the status information comprises activity event information associated with the network-based marketplace. 6. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the image gallery is personalized to a user account associated with the network based marketplace, and an image of an item listed by the user account for sale in the network-based marketplace is included in the plurality of images of the image gallery. 7. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising overlaying multiple status indicators on an image of the image gallery to indicate a number of status states associated with an item represented by the image. 8. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising determining the plurality of images representing items that are identified from the catalog of items listed by the network-based marketplace as matching the search request based, at least in part, on: accessing a list of items associated with a user account and the network-based marketplace; and selecting the plurality of images representing the items from the catalog of items by selecting items in the list that match the search request. 9. A system comprising: one or more processors; and a memory storing instructions that, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving, via a user interface displayed at a client device, input specifying a search request requesting one or more items from a network-based marketplace, causing display of an image gallery at the client device, the image gallery associated with search results from the network-based marketplace, the image gallery comprising a plurality of images representing items that are identified from a catalog of items listed by the network-based marketplace as matching the search request; causing display of, in the image gallery, status information in relation to the plurality of images representing the items from the catalog of items; receiving an indication that a trigger event is detected and that indicates an item not represented in the image gallery and matching the search request has been added to the catalog of items; and responsive to receiving the indication that the trigger event is detected, updating the status information displayed at the client device to indicate the item not represented in the image gallery and associated with the search request has been added to the catalog of items. 10. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein the system comprises a server computing device associated with the network-based marketplace. 11. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein the system comprises the client device. 12. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein causing the display of the status information comprises causing display of a respective colored border around each image of the plurality of images, wherein a color of the respective colored border indicates a respective status associated with an item represented by the image. 13. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein the status information comprises activity event information associated with the network-based marketplace. 14. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein the image gallery is personalized to a user account associated with the network based marketplace, and an image of an item listed by the user account for sale in the network-based marketplace is included in the plurality of images of the image gallery. 15. The system as recited in claim 9 , the operations further comprising determining the plurality of images representing items that are identified from the catalog of items listed by the network-based marketplace as matching the search request from the client device based, at least in part, on: accessing a list of items associated with a user account and the network-based marketplace; and selecting the plurality of images representing the items from the catalog of items by selecting items in the list that match the search request. 16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that are executable by at least one processor to perform operations comprising: receiving, via a user interface displayed at a client device, input specifying a search request requesting one or more items from a network-based marketplace; displaying, at the client device, an image gallery associated with search results from the network-based marketplace, the image gallery comprising a plurality of images representing items that are identified from a catalog of items listed by the network-based marketplace as matching the search request; displaying, at the client device and in the image gallery, status information in relation to the plurality of images representing the items from the catalog of items; receiving, at the client device and from a server associated with the network-based marketplace, an indication that a trigger event is detected and that indicates an item not represented in the image gallery and matching the search request has been added to the catalog of items; and responsive to receiving the indication that the trigger event is detected, updating, via the client device, the status information displayed at the client device to indicate the item not represented in the image gallery and associated with the search request has been added to the catalog of items. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 16 , wherein displaying the status information comprises displaying a respective colored border around each image of the plurality of images, wherein a color of the respective colored border indicates a respective status associated with an item represented by the image. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium as recited in claim 16
