Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and systems are provided for telephone line access with crosstalk stability. A transceiver device coupled to a telephone line, bundled with other telephone lines in a telephone cable, may determine when another transceiver device connected to the telephone cable is estimating signal to noise ratio on another telephone line in the telephone cable, and may control communications over on the telephone line, the controlling including forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on the estimation of signal to noise ratio by the other transceiver device. The transmission may be forced on the telephone line when there is no data to send on the telephone line at a time when the other transceiver device estimates the signal to noise ratio. The forced transmission may be generated by modulating sub-carriers using a pseudo-random sequence generated with an initial seed different from initial seeds used by other transceiver devices.

What is claimed is: 1. A transceiver device comprising: coupling circuitry configured to connect with a telephone line that is bundled with additional telephone lines in a telephone cable; an analog front end; and a controller configured to control communications over the telephone line, via the analog front end and the coupling circuitry; wherein: the controlling comprises forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on estimation of signal to noise ratio, by another transceiver device, on one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable; and the forced transmission comprises a probe frame, and the transceiver device has an initial seed for a first sub-carrier of a first symbol of a payload of the probe frame that is unique among transceiver devices coupled with the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 2. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the controller forces the transmission on the telephone line when there is no data to send on the telephone line at a time when the other transceiver device estimates the signal to noise ratio. 3. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the coupling circuitry, the analog front end, and the controller are configured to operate in accordance with a specification designed for multi-point to multi-point communications over home electrical wiring. 4. The transceiver device of claim 3 , wherein the specification is a G.hn specification. 5. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the forced transmission comprises one or more symbols lacking information content. 6. The transceiver device of claim 5 , wherein the one or more symbols lacking information content comprise sub-carriers loaded with bits coming from a linear feedback shift register. 7. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the controller comprises a baseband digital signal processor. 8. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the controller generates the forced transmission with a payload that is uncorrelated with a payload of a forced transmission by the other transceiver device when the other transceiver device is estimating the signal to noise ratio on the one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 9. The transceiver device of claim 1 , wherein the controller generates the forced transmission, the generating comprising modulating sub-carriers of the forced transmission using a pseudo-random sequence generated with an initial seed that is different from other initial seeds used by other transceiver devices coupled with the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 10. The transceiver device of claim 9 , wherein the initial seed used by the transceiver device is different from all other initial seeds used by all other transceiver devices sharing the telephone cable. 11. A method comprising: in a transceiver device coupled to a telephone line that is bundled with additional telephone lines in a telephone cable: determining when another transceiver device connected to the telephone cable is estimating signal to noise ratio on one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable; controlling communications over on the telephone line, wherein the controlling comprises forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on the estimation of signal to noise ratio by the other transceiver device, wherein the forced transmission comprises a probe frame; and using an initial seed for a first sub-carrier of a first symbol of a payload of the probe frame that is unique among transceiver devices coupled with the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 12. The method of claim 11 , comprising forcing the transmission on the telephone line when there is no data to send on the telephone line at a time when the other transceiver device estimates the signal to noise ratio. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the forced transmission comprises one or more symbols lacking information content. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more symbols lacking information content comprise sub-carriers loaded with bits coming from a linear feedback shift register. 15. The method of claim 11 , comprising generating the forced transmission with a payload that is uncorrelated with a payload of a forced transmission by the other transceiver device when the other transceiver device is estimating the signal to noise ratio on the one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 16. The method of claim 11 , comprising generating the forced transmission, the generating comprising modulating sub-carriers of the forced transmission using a pseudo-random sequence generated with an initial seed that is different from other initial seeds used by other transceiver devices coupled with the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the initial seed used by the transceiver device is different from all other initial seeds used by all other transceiver devices sharing the telephone cable. 18. A transceiver device comprising: coupling circuitry configured to connect with a telephone line that is bundled with additional telephone lines in a telephone cable; an analog front end; and a controller configured to control communications over the telephone line, via the analog front end and the coupling circuitry; wherein: the controlling comprises forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on estimation of signal to noise ratio, by another transceiver device, on one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable; and the controller generates the forced transmission with a payload that is uncorrelated with a payload of a forced transmission by the other transceiver device when the other transceiver device is estimating the signal to noise ratio on the one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 19. A transceiver device comprising: coupling circuitry configured to connect with a telephone line that is bundled with additional telephone lines in a telephone cable; an analog front end; and a controller configured to control communications over the telephone line, via the analog front end and the coupling circuitry; wherein: the controlling comprises forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on estimation of signal to noise ratio, by another transceiver device, on one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable; and the controller generates the forced transmission, the generating comprising modulating sub-carriers of the forced transmission using a pseudo-random sequence generated with an initial seed that is different from other initial seeds used by other transceiver devices coupled with the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable. 20. The transceiver device of claim 19 , wherein the initial seed used by the transceiver device is different from all other initial seeds used by all other transceiver devices sharing the telephone cable. 21. A method comprising: in a transceiver device coupled to a telephone line that is bundled with additional telephone lines in a telephone cable: determining when another transceiver device connected to the telephone cable is estimating signal to noise ratio on one of the additional telephone lines in the telephone cable; controlling communications over on the telephone line, wherein the controlling comprises forcing a transmission on the telephone line based on the estimation of signal to noise ratio by the other transceiver device; and generating the forced transmission wi
