This tool exchange device for a machine tool uses an exchange arm to exchange tools between a processing area and a tool accommodation area. In the tool exchange device, an imaging device is used to capture an image of a tool in the tool accommodation area, operation parameters for the exchange arm when the exchange arm is used to exchange the tools are determined from the captured image of the tool, and the exchange arm is operated on the basis of the operation parameters to exchange the tool.

The invention claimed is: 1. A tool changing method for a machine tool configured to change a tool, via a changing arm, between a machining space and a tool storage space, the tool changing method comprising: an image capturing step of capturing an image of the tool with an image capturing device; an operation parameter determining step of determining an operation parameter for the changing arm for the time of tool change by the changing arm, based on mass of the tool and position of the center of gravity of the tool relative to a tool holder which holds the tool, the mass and the position of the center of gravity being calculated from the image of the tool captured by the image capturing device; and a tool changing step of changing the tool via the changing arm operated based on the operation parameter. 2. The tool changing method according to claim 1 , wherein the operation parameter is additionally determined based on a rotational parameter acting on grippers provided at ends of the changing arm, and is calculated based on the captured image of the tool. 3. The tool changing method according to claim 1 , wherein the changing arm comprises a rotating arm which has grippers provided at ends thereof, and a rotating shaft at the center of the rotating arm between the grippers, whereby a tool to be brought back to a tool magazine disposed in the tool storage space from a spindle disposed in the machining space, and a tool to be supplied to the spindle from the tool magazine are held by the grippers and are simultaneously changed with each other. 4. The tool changing method according to claim 3 , wherein the image capturing step is carried out when the tool being image captured is positioned at a standby position at which one of the grippers receives the tool. 5. A machine tool configured to change a tool, via a changing arm of a tool changer, between a machining space and a tool storage space, the machine tool comprising: an image capturing device disposed in the tool storage space, and configured to capture an image of a tool with an image capturing device; and a control device configured to determine an operation parameter for the changing arm for the time of tool change by the changing arm, based on the mass of the tool and position of the center of gravity of the tool relative to a tool holder which holds the tool, the mass and the position of the center of gravity being calculated from the image of the tool captured by the image capturing device, and to operate the changing arm based on the operation parameter in order to change the tool via the changing arm. 6. The machine tool according to claim 5 , wherein the changing arm has grippers at ends thereof, and wherein the control device additionally determines the operation parameter based on a rotational parameter acting on the grippers, the operation parameter being calculated based on the captured image of the tool. 7. The machine tool according to claim 5 , wherein the changing arm comprises a rotating arm which has grippers provided at ends thereof, and a rotating shaft at the center of the rotating arm between the grippers, whereby a tool to be brought back to a tool magazine disposed in the tool storage space from a spindle disposed in the machining space, and a tool to be supplied to the spindle from the tool magazine are held by the grippers and are simultaneously changed with each other. 8. The machine tool according to claim 7 , wherein the tool changer further comprises a shifter for conveying a tool between the tool magazine and one of the grippers, and wherein the image capturing device captures an image of the tool being image captured when the tool being image captured is positioned at a standby position at which the changing arm receives the tool from the shifter.
