Official abstract text for this publication.
An electronic device of a second user receives, from a first user, a first message. Subsequent to receiving the first message, the electronic device sends, to the first user, a second message responsive to the first message, wherein the second message is selected from a set of predefined first-reply messages. The set of predefined first-reply messages is based on first-reply factors for the second user, including content from one or more messages between the first user and the second user, and including one or more of: relationship characteristics between the first user and the second user, information provided by the first user and/or the second user to a social network, profile characteristics of the first user and/or the second user, environmental characteristics of the first user and/or the second user, and/or technical characteristics of the electronic device of the first user and/or the second user.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: at an electronic device of a second user, the electronic device having a processor and memory storing instructions for execution by the processor: receiving, from a first user, a first message; receiving, from an electronic device distinct from the electronic device of the second user, a set of predefined first-reply messages for the second user, wherein: the set of predefined first-reply messages is based on a plurality of first-reply factors for the second user; and the first-reply factors for the second user include: content from one or more messages between the first user and the second user; one or more response statistics for the second user including (i) a first frequency with which the second user selects any predefined reply messages and (ii) a second frequency with which the second user sends any user-defined custom reply messages, wherein the set of predefined first-reply messages is filtered based on the first and the second frequencies; and a location of the first user and a location of the second user; and receiving a selection of a first-reply message of the set of first-reply messages by the second user; and transmitting the selected first-reply message to the first user. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: prior to transmitting the selected first-reply message, receiving, from a remote server, the set of predefined first-reply messages. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: subsequent to transmitting the selected first-reply to the first user: receiving, from the first user, a third message responsive to the transmitted first-reply message, wherein: the third message is selected by the first user from a set of predefined second-reply messages; the set of predefined second-reply messages is based on a plurality of second-reply factors for the first user; the second-reply factors for the first user include content from one or more messages between the first user and the second user; and the second-reply factors for the first user include one or more of: relationship characteristics between the first user and the second user; information provided by the first user to a social network and/or information provided by the second user to the social network; profile characteristics of the first user and/or profile characteristics of the second user; the location of the first user and/or the location of the second user; and/or technical characteristics of the electronic device of the first user and/or technical characteristics of an electronic device of the second user. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a messaging application at the electronic device of the second user receives the first message and transmits the selected first-reply message, the method further comprising: in accordance with a determination that application-launch criteria are satisfied by content in the first message and/or content in the selected first-reply message, activating and displaying an application distinct from the messaging application. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: subsequent to transmitting the selected first-reply message to the first user: receiving, from the first user, a third message responsive to the transmitted first-reply message; receiving a set of predefined second-reply messages, wherein the set of predefined second-reply messages is based on a plurality of second-reply factors for the second user; displaying the set of predefined second-reply messages; displaying one or more alternative communication options; and detecting selection of an alternative communication option from the one or more alternative communication options. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: after transmitting the selected first-reply message: transmitting a third message to the first user and one or more other users besides the first user, including a third user; receiving, from the first user, a fourth message responsive to the third message, wherein: the fourth message is selected by the first user from a set of predefined second-reply messages; the set of predefined second-reply messages is based on a plurality of second-reply factors for the first user; the second-reply factors for the first user include content from one or more messages between the first user and the second user; and the second-reply factors for the first user include one or more of: relationship characteristics between the first user and the second user; information provided by the first user to a social network and/or information provided by the second user to the social network; profile characteristics of the first user and/or profile characteristics of the second user; the location of the first user and/or the location of the second user; and/or technical characteristics of the electronic device of the first user and/or technical characteristics of an electronic device of the second user; and receiving, from the third user, a fifth message responsive to the third message, wherein: the fifth message responsive to the third message is selected by the third user from a set of predefined third-reply messages; the set of predefined third-reply messages is based on a plurality of third-reply factors for the third user; the third-reply factors for the third user include content from one or more messages between the third user and the second user; and the third-reply factors for the third user include one or more of: relationship characteristics between the third user and the second user; information provided by the third user to the social network and/or information provided by the second user to the social network; profile characteristics of the third user and/or profile characteristics of the second user; a location of the third user and/or the location of the second user; and/or technical characteristics of the electronic device of the third user and/or technical characteristics of an electronic device of the second user. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected first-reply message is a request for payment, the method further comprising: after transmitting the selected first-reply message to the first user, receiving, from the first user, a payment transfer to the second user and/or an indicia of a payment transfer to the second user. 8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising: concurrently with transmitting the selected first-reply message to the first user, transmitting, to a third user, the selected first-reply message; and subsequent to transmitting the selected first-reply message to the third user, receiving, from the third user, a payment transfer to the second user and/or an indicia of a payment transfer to the second user. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: updating a user response profile of the second user in accordance with the selected first-reply message, wherein: the set of predefined first-reply messages is based at least in part on the user response profile of the second user; and the user response profile of the second user includes response statistics for the second user. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first-reply messages in the set of predefined first-reply messages are presented in an order based on a generic response profile. 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more response statistics comprises contextual information indicating the context in which predefined first-reply messages are selected by the second user. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device includes a display and the method further comprises: displaying, on the display, a pop-up window including t
