What is claimed is: 1. A compound of Formula VI: wherein R 1 and R 1a are each independently C 1-6 alkylene-SO 3 H; R 2 , R 2a , and R 3 are each C 1-6 alkyl; R 3a is C 1-6 alkylene-COOH; each R 4 and R 4a is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C 1-6 alkyl; and each subscript n is an integer from 0 to 4, or salts thereof. 2. The compound of claim 1 having a purity of at least 70%. 3. The compound of claim 1 having a purity of at least 80%. 4. The compound of claim 1 having a purity of at least 85%. 5. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the compound of Formula VI has the structure: or salts thereof. 6. The compound of claim 5 having a purity of at least 70%. 7. The compound of claim 5 having a purity of at least 75%. 8. The compound of claim 5 having a purity of at least 80%. 9. The compound of claim 5 having a purity of at least 85%. 10. A compound of Formula VII: having a purity of at least 75%, wherein R 1 and R 1a are each independently C 1-6 alkylene-SO 3 H; R 2 , R 2a , and R 3 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, C 1-6 alkyl, and C 1-6 alkylene-SO 3 H; R 3a is C 1-6 alkylene-COOH; each R 4 and R 4a is independently selected from the group consisting of H, C 1-6 alkyl, —SO 3 H, and C 1-6 alkylene-SO 3 H; R 5 is SO 3 H; and each subscript n is an integer from 0 to 4, or salts thereof. 11. The compound of claim 10 having a purity of at least 85%. 12. The compound of claim 10 having a purity of at least 90%. 13. The compound of claim 10 having a purity of at least 95%. 14. The compound of claim 10 having a purity of at least 98%. 15. The compound of claim 10 , having the structure: or salts thereof. 16. The compound of claim 10 , having the structure: 17. The compound of claim 16 having a purity of at least 90%. 18. A compound of Formula VIII having the structure: substantially free of the compound having the structure: 19.
