The method of claim 13 , wherein a determination of whether the posting is associated with the product in the product catalog from the posting entity is made by communicating between the social networking entity and the product catalog via an application programming interface. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein receiving the notification from the social networking entity that the user has purchased the product is performed through an application programming interface. 16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the user has a pre-existing account storing preferences governing how the image or the video and the buy option are presented. 17.
